The Board of County Commissioners~of Pitkin County, Colorado, met at 10:00 o'clock AM with the
following members present: Chairman, T. J. Sardy; Commissioners Orest A. Gerbaz and Samuel W. Howell; Peggy
E. Coble, County Clerk; Robert Delaney, County Attorney beingabsent having been excused.
Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Mace appeared before the Commissioners regarding what was going to be done on
the Castle Creek road as far as improvements and safety measures. They were advised that in cooperation with
the Forest Service, the iron company and the County the road was to be improved. Also the dust problem was
discussed and the Mace"s were advised that the County would use dust oil as far as funds were available.
Mr. & Mrs. Mace, together with Mrs. Ann Worth also discussed the contemplated weed control program in Pitkin
County and expressed their desire to go on record as naf.uralists they were opposed to loosing broad leaf
plants and were totally opposed to a weed control program.
Rob Roy appeared and discussed with the Commissioners the possibility of black top the road up
Castle Creek instead of using dust oil. After considerable discussion he was advised that this was not
financially feasible at this time. Mr. Roy also outlined the preliminary plans for renovation of the Armory
for a proposed Youth center and conference room.
Everette Pierce appeared before the Commissioners and requested that the road over Snow Mass Divide
be opened as soon as possible in order that he could have access to his property. He was advised that
Commissioner Gerbaz would inspect the road and the County would open same as soon as possible. Mr. Pierce
also advised that the channel should be cleaned by the bridge across East Snowmass Creek.
Neil Edstrom appeared and requested to rent the County cat and said request was granted.
Roy Vroom appeared before the Commissioners regarding damage done to the roads in the vicinity of
his home in West Meadow Subdivision by the installation of natural gas lines and was advised that the County
had notified the company installing the pipes that the damage to roads and other property had to be restored
to their original condition. Mr. Vroom also discussed dust oil in the vicinity of his home.
G. E, Buchanan, County Engineer was authorized to make arrangements with adjoining property owners
on Conundrum Creek to cut the necessary trees and obtain right of way necessary to install a new bridge.
Mr. 0. W. Leitner appeared on behalf of the Bank of Aspen and discussed investing of County monies.
I~r was decided that $100,000.00 should be drawn from County General Funds and invested in Certificates of
Deposits for a period of six month with the amount to be renewed at the end of six months if the money were
available. Such funds to be matched by Escrow security the same as County open deposits.
There being no further business the Board adjoured to meet May 7, 1962 at 10:00:
Bills were audited approved and ordered paid from the various funds as follows:
