The Bonds of the various County off'icia were examined and found correct as to form and security. In the matter of the assessr.~ent upon the improvements on the V~illiams Bros. ran8h, assessed at 5350. in the judgement of the Board of County Commissioners, acting as a Board of Equalization, it is the judgement of the Board that the assessment be reduced by X950. that is to the sum of w4300. subject to the approval of the State Tax Commission. The Clerk was instructed to notify the druggists of Aspen, that they are not to furnish County patients with any medicines or drugs, at t'he expence of the County, without a written prescription of the County Physician. ` The resignation of VV. R. Hall as Justice of the Peace was filed with the Board, and upon motion the same was accepted. to the matter of the claim of i~els Lklund's ball for road work amounting to 123.90, the said Eklund owing the County for taxes the sum of ti~163.08, it is by agreement with said Eklund ordered that said sum of 123.90 shall be allowed, and applied on said x'16.3.08 due the County, and leaving the balance due. l,etter~~6f oondolbnae~and copy ordered sent to Judge J. Upon motion the said off was accepted and the treasurer and clerk authorized and directed to transfer and assign said certificates for said sum. P.2. E. Upon motion the said offer was accepted and the treasurer and clerk authorized and directed to transfer and assign said certificates for said sum. The treasurer was authorized and. directed to accept the sum of x'130. 85, from Phil Garnier. In full settlement of all personal taxes due by him, being the full amount due, less accrued interest. I?ESO~UTIONS BY COUIIT'_' C0~4TI5SIOId1''I?S FOP, tiDOPTIOI"1 OF ST.~TF HIGH't.iY Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Pitkin County 'that it is desired to have adopted by the State Highway Department that certain portion of the I:Iidland Railway Grade within the County of Pitkin, Colorado, abondoned for railway uses, extending from Snow Mae to the YVack crossing, being a stetch of road In extention of the adopted and constructed pc said grade, running from Basalt In Eagle County to said Snow Mass station in Pitkin County, already incorporated into Sta to Highway T1o. 82( formerly designated as at2te Hlghway ?.5) eliminating therefrom that part of said State highway running from the crossing of the Stapleton lane, so called, near Aspen, dov<m through the canyon of the Roaring fork River ar on to Basalt, but not abondoning the same as a County Load, but it to be preserved and main ained by the County, as County Road for the use of those whom it now best serves. 'This request is made in the interest of economy in construction and up keep, the :=uit- ability and desirability of said section because of its easy grade and unobstructed view, and its hortening of distance between lispen and Glenwood Springs to the advantage of the 1< volume of travel between Aspen and Glenwood Springs, making of it an extendinn in fact of the great Independence Pass route from Denver and citi es of the l~astern.slppe and thence c to Salt Zake City, Utah, and to Pacific Coast, and because of safety it will insure. Resolved that by the State Highway Department, its Engineer shall be directed forthwith to examine and report, upon the matters in this resolution set forth, in order that the State Hlghway Department shall be informed respecting the same for its immediate action because of urgency. Resolved that duplicate originals of this resolution be at once forwarded to ~Vm. Walser, Chairman of the Advisor Board of State Highway Department and to the Secretary of the Department, and to the Mate Highway Engineer. Upon motion It was agreed that she should have 4 days work snd two teams if necessary and three men. It appearing that there was a vacancy in the ofi'ice flf Justice of the Peace in the Aspen Die.trlet, upon motion J. T,Z. Leary--was unanimously elected to fill said v~:cancy. The clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for a car load of coal for the Court house, the same to be opened at the next negular meeting of the Board. The Board reserving to right to reject any and all bids. The BOard received a communication from both Mrs 2d. Z. Carroll and Tdrs Jennie Popish, asking for reductions in their taxes, as they had been, in their opinion, erroneously assessed, County Assessor, T,4cPhee appeared before the Board and advised that a survey be made of the lands in nuestion.
