The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Coles ado, met at 10:00 AM,
September 18, 1959, with the following members present: Chairman: T, J, Sardy, Commissioners.
Orest Gerbaz and Samuel Howell, Robert Delaney, County Attorney, Peggy E, Coble, Clerk.
Bills were audited, approved and ordered paid from the ilarious Welfare Funds as
follows;
OLD AGT PENSION FUND: 5,986.84.
PUBLIC WELFARE FUND: 1,061.51
Minutes of the meetings of September 1 and September 8, 1959, were read and
aporoved,
I, Request was made for signs on the road leading up Red Mountain to protect children
t~ralking up that road from traffic hazards and the Oommissioners after discussion requested
the Sheriff to make an investigation and order suoh fiigl~lsr7^. as he deemed appropriate for
'that purpose, and thereafter report to the Corrnnissioners c^ncerning the installation of the
same,
Mr, D, R, C, Brown, appeared requesting that the CoTrmiissioners consider putting up
for sale at Public Auction the County~s right, title a1 d equity in and to the Jennie V,
Etnolite and Sunset Lodes, U,S,M,S, No. 53m0 and it was reported to Mr, Brown that part of
those Lodes Claim were included in the East Aspen area recently patented to the City, and the
natter was referred to the County Assessor to report back to the Commissioners as to whether
taxes were being paid on the patented portions of those lode claims, and also as to uh at the
tax status of the same is.
Mr. G, E, Buchanan, County Engineer, reported that after examining the Smith Bridge
across the Roaring Fork near Woody Creek, it appeared that the cost of abutaments and other
necessary repairs would be in the approximate sum of X9,000,00, involving approximately
1170 square feet of floor area. Mr, Buchanan was directed to proceed with obtaining more
detailed information cone erring costs, particularly as to the cost of installing abutements
during the fall of 1959.
Mr, Walter Scheer, representing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, appeared before
the Commissioners to discuss a change of Medical Insurance plan from Blue-Cross--Blue Shield
to a proposed Metropolitan plan, and was assured that the County would give close considerati~
to his proposal.
Mr, Roy Vroom ~ peered protesting the continued operation of 8;.gmavel pit and hot
mix plant along the county road westerly of Aspen leasing to the Slaughter House Bridge and
thereafter the Commissioners inspected ~h;td problem and concluded that in view of the limited
period of time such operations would continue, that no present action was necessary also
considering the distance from the nearest housing.
The Commissioners approved Steps 3-8 with Step 9 as a "Senority Step" for Lloyd
Speckman, Welfare Directors I, effective January 1, 1960 at $350.00 per month.
The Bid of Robert Barnard, M, H., to purchase the Following mining cl aims owned
by the County was tabled for further investigation.
