The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, met at 10:00 AM
January 20, 1960, with the following members present: Chairman Orest Gerbaz; Commissioners
T, J, Sardy and Samuel Howell; Robe-~t Delaney Count Attorney; Peggy E. Coble Clerk.
Minutes of the meetings of January ~}, 1960 and January 11, 1960 and January
12, 1960 were read and approved.
Bills were addited approved and ordered paid from the Various Welfare Funds.

Bids, which had been solicited by the County, were opened for gasoline and
.diesel fuel to be furnished for use in C~sunty equipment during 1960. Roaring Fork co-op sub-
~jmitted bid for regular or bronze gas of ,161} a gallon and of .14 cents per gallon on No. 2
'diesel fuel. Continental oil Company bid 17.10 cents per gallon on gasoline and .14 cents
;'per gallon for diesel fuel, but provided in said bid that delivery was in tank wagon gaanfii-
Ities. After consideration, it was determined that that the Roaring Fork Co-Op bid should be
'and it was ordered accepted on that basis that deliveries would be made at the quoted prices
',to places of use on demand through the year in tank wagon quantities or less, as might. be
required for the County~s purposes, and the following Resolution was adopted:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the County of Pitkin, State of Colorado, has heretofore a vertised
,for the furnishing of gasoline and diesel fuel as may be needed during the year 1 , to be
;delivered as needed at Thomasville and Aspen, Colorado;
AND WHEREAS, the Roaring Fork Valley Cooperative Association of Basalt, Colo-
rado, has bid and offered to su ply and furnish the said gasoline and diesel fuel as needed
by the County at a price of 16.1+ cents per gallon for gasoline and 14.0 cents per gallon for
ildiesel fuel, for the said year 1960, to be delivered at the places as stated above;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVID by the Board of County Coirmiissionera of the ~
(County of Pitkin, by its Board of County Commissioners hereby agrees to puachase such gaso-
('line and diesel fuel as map be needed during the year 1960 from the said Roaring Fork Valley
Cooperative Association, at the aforementioned price of 16.4 cents per gallon for gasoline
,and 14.0 cents per gallon for diesel fuel;
IT IS HEREBY ORIIERED that this Resolution be entered in the recorded proceed-
ings of this Board and that a copy thereof, duly certified by the Clerk thereof, be delivered
'to the said Roaring Fork Valley Cooperative Association, forthwith.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, this B®ard of County Commissioners of Pitkin County,

Mrs, Robert Sterling, proprietor of Heather Beds requested permission to
nstall lights to illuminate the directional sign on the Countyy right~of-way near the inter-
~ection of the Maroon-Castle Creek road with Colorado Highway 82 and was advised that this
latter would be investigated and that any such illumination would be subject to zoning
restrictions and requirements and also would be subject to conditions that would not create
. traffic hazard.
The matter of closer co-ordination of law enforcement activities between
.he City of Aspen and the County Sheriff's office was discussed, including the continued use
~f the jail by the City. The Commissioners authorized the Sheriff to procure one portable
*.ao way radio, on the condition that the City of Aspen would also acquire a like radio, ~nr
Bette r communications between the Sheriffs office and the Police force, and also for
mergency use, such unit to be purchased at a cost of not to exceed $400,00 to the County.
he Commissioners further authorized the Sheriff to employ a deputy Sheriff, who would be
vailable to assume the Sheriffas duties in the Sheriffts absence and also to assist the
heriff, such employment to be on the basis that the City of Aspen would pay approximately
ne-half of the deputy~s salary, for his part-time service as a police officer and the
ommissioners authorized an appropriation of an additional 2,500.00 to cover such expenses.
A Jury list for the April term of court was selected.
Warrants for the last six months of 1959 were cancelled.
There being no further business the Board adjourned to meet February 1, 1961
