The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, met at 10:00 AM, May 1, 1961
with the following members present: Chairman Samuel W. Howell; Conmissioners Orest A, Gerbaz and T. J. Sardy;
Robert Delaney, County. Attorney; and Peggy E. Coble, County Clerk.
Bills were audited approved ;and ordered paid from the various funds as follows:
ORDINARY FUND: $7743.45
ROAD 6 BRIDGE FUND'! $11,870.70
COUNTY CLERK'SCLEARING FUND $9,364.87
HOSPITAL YUND: $1,758.33
Mr.. John Louahin appeared before the Commissioners concerning an assignment obtained on
Certificate No. 8570 for taxes of 1926 an3d in 1927, advising that he assumed that he would receive a deed for
Chia property. It appeared that no application for deed was processed, and as a resglt, the certificate had
been canceled. Mr. Loashin was advised that there was nothing the Co~isaionera could do for him under the
actuation.
Robert Kopp appeared before the Commissioners again offering an exchange of land east of
Aspen in order to straighten out the road and was advised that the Commissioners would proceed with this as
soon as survey description was obtained,

Mra. Pat Maddalone, on behalf of the hospital administration requested authority to conduct
an auction of surplus equipment with the proceeds to apply against hospital construction needs. Authority was
so granted,
Mr. Albert Durous appeared before the Commissioners advisingthat some years ago he had. paid
$10.00 per acre to the County for a Tax Deed to certain land which he aubaegnently sold to Atwooda, and dis°
:ousted thatthe same was not patented. He requested refund or else exchange of mining properties and was
advised that the County made no warranties concerning title of tax acquired lands or certificates and could not
ge lano: ~_.:
Renewal of a 3.2 beer license application of Ernest L. and Virginia S. Jones was appzoved.
Mr. Art Pfister appeared before the Commissioners protesting the taxes on Buttermilk Ski
pment, advising that they amount to about 10'7 of income and was advised that this matter would be investi~
Mr. G. E. Buchanan discussed the matter of the installation of a culvert on the Red Mountain roa miners
the Salvation Ditch cooaees and advised that the ditch directors requested a different elevation than he
ended. He was ififormed that the culvert should only B'e installed in accordance with hheirsrecommendation

Mr. Charles Thomas and Mr. Ray Cogburn appeared before the Commissioners requesting that Pitkin
participate in a weed control program and was advised that the matter would be discussed.
Petition for abatement of Joseph Hercgig was unanimously approved by the Commissioners oa the
of a reduction of assessed valuation from $1180.00 to $850.00 with a net abatement of $26.87.
A petition for abatement of David Farny as to 1959 taxes was denied, and a petition for 1960 tax
lent was granted by reduction of assessed valuation from $2,390.00 to $980.00.
Mrs. Ralph George appeared before the Commissioners and requested that road conditions be
~ed up Capttol Creek. She was advised that the matter would be investigated.
The report of James Markalunas, Building Inspector, was approved and it was suggested he give
to owners of house trailers to comply with zoning regulations.
There being no furhM r business the Board adjourned to meet May 18, 1961. „^
