The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, met at 10:00 o'clock AM, June
~5, 1961 with the following ppesent: Samuel W. Howell, Chairman; Commissioners Orest A. Gerbaz and T. J.
~Sardy; Robert Delaney, County Attorney and Peggy E. Coble, Clerk.
Bills were aduited, approved and orderdd paid from the various funds as follows:
ORDINARY FUND: .$9,572.41
ROAD AND BRIDGE FUND: 15,408.28
COUNTY CLERK'S CLEARING FUND: $3,500.57

G. L. Saadersen requea tad permission of the County to cross the County Road ;near Woody Creek
II ith a water line. After disacuasion, the request was approved subject to the conditions that the inatAlltion
~hould be at the sole coat of Mr. Sandereen, that the pipeline would be installed, supervised, and done in ctrl
compliace with directions of the County Engineer; that the responsibility for maintenance of the water line wog
e on the user, and the. license granted would be subject to termination if the water line was not properly
iatained.
A letter from the Planning and Zoning Commission was received and discussed, and the County
ttorney was directed to answer the same.
Donald Snyder appeared before the Commissioners requesting a donation by the 0®ikRCy Fgc6ha:-.y
§tle League Baseball Program and after discussion the Commissioners authorized a donation in the sum of
200.00 to be paid on warrant. M
~ ~ Mr. Melton appeared before the Commissioners regie sting that the County Road leading up Brush
reek be graded and that a fence along the road right-of-way be repaired. He was advised that ;the Coa®iasion~
ould investigate the actuation and let him know.
A delegation appeared from the Redstone area requestin g that the stretch of approximately one
ale of road south of Redstone be worked on by the County, and were advised that the County would attempt to
ork out a cooperative agreement for better maintenance of this roady but that the expense of running County
quipment from the Aspen or Emma area to Redstone and above was almost prohibitive.
Bids were solicited and the Coa®ieaioners declared the same would be opened for the conatructi~
f ;the sewer outlet from the new hospital to connect with the disposal plant. Only one bid was received, beii
the bid of Merrill Construction Company. The bid was found to be in excess of the Engineer's eatimatea. Thera
fter negotiations were entered into with Mr. Merrill on the basis of removing the manholes and mahhole work f'.
ithe bid, which the engineer reported to be exceeaive. It was then agreed and Mr. Merrill was authorized to
~ roceed with the work on the basis of his bid, less the manhole items, for which the County would buy the man-
oles and the concrete for the base, and Mr. Merrill would supply labor and machinery for the installation of
Wholes on the basis of cost plus tea per cent, with machinery rates being as follows: A.C. Fourteen Loader,
$12.00 per hour, Bantam Shovel, $12.00 per bout, Massie Loader, $8.00 per ;hour. Work to be completed in
fifteen days and items one, two. and three were to be completed at the prlces and in accordance with the plane
and specifications. The County to take care of replacement of oil surfacing where Che road is cutt. Thin
agreement was unanimously approved by the Coamieaioners.
Mr. Tony Antoaidea appeared before the Commiaeioners~requeating a commitment to participate in
the cost of obtaining Te levieion at Redstone, and the Commissioners advised Mr. Antonidea that subject to
determination of feasibility, approval ofplana, approval of installation, compliance with government require-
ents, and following the usual procedure, the County would.approve up to thirty-five per cent of the coat of
the installation.
The matter of fencing was discussed with J. Kell along the highway tmn Brush Creek, and at the
to Cemetery and the Aspen Grove Company. A contract was authorized to be drawn on the basis of the County's

furnishing the fencing materials, and Mr. Kell furnishing the lets or, tools, and equipment, for construction
of a forty-two inch woven wire, with two barbed wires on top, fence, with posts set one rod apart, anchor
posts to be at least two feet in depth, properly baaced, payment to be made upon completffon of each project,
to the satisfaction of the County Engineer. The price was to be and dollar seventy-five $1.75) per rod where
rocks or other conditions make digging difficult, and one dollar sixty cents (1.fi0) per rod where digging is
not difficult.
Mr. Clinton B. Stewart, appeased•_before the Commissioners requesting vacation of a street in the
Little Chief Lode, and it was suggested he submit a written proposal.
Dr. Robert Burlingame submitted hie resignation from the Board of Adjustment, and was requested to
defer the effective date of the resignation until July 1, which he agreed to do. Subject to that condition,
the Commissioners voted to accept the resignation with regret as of July Q, 1961.
Mr. Neil Edstrom of the U. S. Forest Service appeared before the Commissioners advising. that a lette~.
had been received from Glenn Vagneur concerning the right-of-way on the Woody Creek Road and threatening to
clone the road unless settlement was made concerning the right-of-way. Ne was advised that agreement had been
reached with Mr. Vagneur concerning the right-of-way, and the County was prepared to pay the agreed price at
any time Mr. Vagneur was ready to complete the agreement.
There being no furhter basins sa the Board adjourned to meet June 19, 196~1Jat 10:00 AM.
