Re: Nix Residence, 521-523 W. Hopkins Affordable Housing Unit 1
Dear Allison,
Mr. Nix resides in a deed restricted affordable housing unit with the resale value
controlled by the Aspen/Pitkin County Housing Authority. The 2008 property value was
erroneously assigned to this property at $708,900 generating a tax bill of $1,712.72.
The correct value for the 2008 tax year should have been $250,000 with a
corresponding tax bill of $603.98.
We have made this correction for the 2009 tax year for taxes due in January 2010. Mr.
Nix has filed a Petition for Abatement to recover the taxes that were over paid for the
2008 tax year. A copy of his Abatement Petition has been attached.
Due to the high volume of appeals that have been filed in Pitkin County for the 2009 tax
year, we will not be able to process the 2008 abatement until August. This means that
Mr. Nix will not receive his actual refund until late August or early September.
I hope this will help in the recalculation of Mr. Nix's mortgage escrow account. Should
you need additional information or have further questions, please don't hesitate to give
me a call.
