If approval takes longer than 6 hours, a rate of $55 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $330 is due at the time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit: second, before final approval of the ISDS permit. In that time the well has always produced sufficient water for the houses served. About five years ago a pump test was performed on the community well. It was done by an adjacent landowner in relation to a rezoning request and the homeowners did not receive a copy. The well service company personnel who performed the test told me verbally the well showed very good capacity with a large reserve beyond our needs. The system includes a well approximately 125 feet deep, which pumps into a IW -,OW gallon holding tank. The water is then chlorinated and pumped into three pressure, holding tanks prior to distribution to homes. A monthly bacteriological sample is collected as required by the State. Dear Mr. Wilson: As requested, a representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. conducted testing for a replacement septic disposal system design at the subject site. The findings of our work are presented in this report. The work was performed in accordance with our agreement for professional services to you dated April 16, 1999. A profile pit and three shallow backhoe pits were excavated on April 20, 1999, at the locations shown on Fig. 1. Percolation test holes (nominal 12 inch diameter by 12 inch deep) were hand dug at the bottom of the shallow backhoe pits and soaked one day prior to testing. The test holes were protected from freezing overnight with rigid foam insulation. The soils exposed in the percolation holes were similar to that exposed in the Profile Pit shown on Fig. 2 and consist of about 11/2 feet of organic topsoil overlying slightly silty sandy gravel and cobbles to the pit depth of 8 feet. A representative of Pitkin County Environmental Health Department visited the site to observe the profile pit. No free water was observed in the pits and the subsoils were moist. Percolation tests were conducted on April 21, 1999 by a representative of Hepworth- Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. The percolation test results, presented in Table 1, indicate an infiltration rate between about 10 and 40 minutes per inch with an average of 30 minutes per inch. The two slower rates were due to cobbles in the bottom of the percolation test holes. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the percolation test results, the tested area should be suitable for an infiltration type septic disposal system.
