COLORADO EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO STATEWIDE BALLOT QUESTION
REGARDING PROPOSITION 101, AMENDMENT 60, AND AMENDMENT 61.

WHEREAS, state voters will have the opportunity at the November 2 statewide general election
to protect the fiscal health of local government by defeating Proposition 101, Amendment 60,
and Amendment 61; and
WHEREAS, these ballot measures would reduce the state budget by over one billion dollars,
forcing dramatic and unsustainable cuts to public education, as well as health care, dozens of
other critical public services, and eliminate over 70,000 jobs state -wide ; and
WHEREAS, the services and programs in Pitkin County such as Human Services, Senior
Services, Law Enforcement, Road Maintenance & Plowing, and Clerk's and Recorders, will be
reduced due to losses in revenue from these proposed measures; and
WHEREAS, previously voter approved over -rides of TABOR revenue limitations would be
cancelled by Proposition 60, therefore voiding the previous decisions of local voters; and
WHEREAS, Local control would be lost by Amendment 60 allowing anyone owning local
property to vote in local elections regardless of residency; and
WHEREAS, severe restrictions in Amendment 61 dramatically restrict the ability to finance
long -term capital improvements such as affordable housing, Airport improvements, and other
public facilities
WHEREAS, E 911 fees would be frozen by Proposition 101 at 2009 levels, eliminating any
future increases to meet on -going demands for public safety, improved technology, and
emergency service response calls; and
WHEREAS, provisions of state law do allow Pitkin County to put forth this resolution as a
statement of opposition to the measures known as Proposition 101, Amendment 60, and
Amendment 61;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County commissioners of Pitkin
County Colorado:
That the Board of County Commissioners opposes Proposition 101, Amendment 60, and
Amendment 61; and urges our citizens to vote against all three ballot measures.
