HomeMy WebLinkAboutbocc.res.030.1999A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO WISHING TO THANK BILL TUITE FOR BEING BILL - WHENEVER AND WHEREVER HE MEETS YOU; FOR BEING FAIR AND KIND AND INFORMED AND THOUGHTFUL AND BRIGHT; FOR BEING THERE WHEN NEEDED; FOR ASKING THE HARD QUESTIONS THAT PUSH FOR HARD ANSWERS; FOR BEING THERE; AND, ESPECIALLY, FOR CARING SO MUCH FOR HIS COMMUNITY RESOLUTION #99- CO WHEREAS, that the Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners wishes to thank Bill Tuite for his years of Public Service; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite has served both the City of Aspen and Pitkin County diligently for 17 years, representing the citizens of this county; and WHEREAS, Bill Tuite has given his time and expertise not only while serving on the BOCC but also while representing the Citizens of Pitkin County on the Roaring Fork Transit Authority, the Colorado River District Board, and Community Health Services Board, and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite also found time to maintain his accounting business and serve up a mountain of fine lasagna in his eatery in downtown Aspen; and WHEREAS, Bill Tuite, due to his ownership of that fine restaurant has had to endure numerous disparaging comments from fellow board members regarding the quality of fare at his restaurant; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite always responded with aplomb and humor at these low blows; and WHEREAS, being the consummate politician and representing the county's citizens in a fair and even- handed manner, Bill Tuite was voted the best politician for the year 1997 in all of Pitkin County; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite has single handily managed to avoid being personally sued by John Musick while being a Commissioner and was the only City Councilman not facing recall by the citizens of Aspen during his tenure as a councilman; and WHEREAS, Bill Tuite did utilize his extensive negotiating skills to help resolve a possible international crisis between an upstart 3rd government in Pitkin County and negotiated a tentative peace accord between a neighborhood of "creatures" and a surreal corporation located somewhere in the Caribbean; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite played a key leadership role in the eventual purchase of the Hummingbird mining claim which will preserve the Hunter Creek Valley forever; and WHEREAS, Bill Tuite's level headedness, fair minded approach and sage advice will be sorely missed by this Board and his staff; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tuite's New York humor and perspective on conflict and Life could never be replaced. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Board wishes to thank Bill Tuite for his dedication to public service, meetings from hell, noon meetings without food, cold pizza or soggy sandwiches at 5 p.m. meetings and decision making in a fish bowl. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Bill insisted against a going away party; Resolution #99- 3n Page 2 AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the BOCC wanted to acknowledge Bill's dedication to public service and does hereby declare February 29th as Bill Tuite day in Pitkin County. AND BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that we wish him well on his next life adventures what ever they may be!
