PROCLAMATION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN
COUNTY, COLORADO HONORING KATHY CHANDLER AS
2010 PITKIN COUNTY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler has been at the helm of the Pitkin County Library for more
than three decades and during that time supervised the design, construction, maintenance and
fundraising for the new library building; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler also provided leadership and oversight during the
conversion of the library systems from handwritten index cards to the totally computerized system
that it is today; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler will stop at nothing to bring attention to the library and its
many worthy. causes. She has been known to dress up like a cow and a bookworm in 4th of July
parades over the years and has always encouraged her employees join her in these spectacles;
and
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler has an unpredictable sense of humor and the ability to
spontaneously break into song during staff meetings if something reminds her of one of her
favorite tunes; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler was instrumental in making the 2009 County Holiday Party
a success in spite of challenging budget cuts. She planned, organized, implemented, oversaw and
coordinated the event ordering food, lining up music and a dance floor, inviting Santa Claus and
making sure kids had fun alongside the adults.
WHEREAS, Kathy Chandler has instilled value and respect for the library and the
importance of impeccable customer service in her loyal employees of whom many have spent 25
years or more under her tutelage. It is said that "the only way to get a job at the library is for
someone to retire"; and.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Pitkin County Commissioners and
the people of Pitkin County are honored to proclaim Kathy Chandler the 2010 Pitkin County
Government Employee of the Year and we hope that she will continue to lead the library for many
years to come.
