- ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, Pitkin County's olde� adults a�e val'ued members of our community,• and
WH�REAS, abuse of older adurts is a tragedy inflicted on a vulne�able segment of t�ie
population and an ever increasing p�oblem r� today's society that crosses all' socio--econornzc
boundaries; and �
WHEREAS, elder abuse is most often de�ned as any act that harms an older adult or
jeopardizes his o� he� health or welfare; and �
WHEREAS, combating abuse of older adults wil'r �ielp improve the quality of life for all

citizens� our �communities and count�y ar�d wirl allow olde� adults to continue to live as
independently as possible to cont�ibu�e to the l fe and vihrancy of Pitkin �County
WHEREAS, Pitkin County's older adults should be t�eated wi�h �espect and dignity as
they eontinue to serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers and important and active members of our
community �
