This astewater treatment facility has been desinned to trNit waste- w'ater generated hy approximatly 320 mine er;ployees at the 1 Coal- Mine. The location of the mine and treatment facility is'indi- cated on the attached map. This facility will be separate from the coal wash•plant pollution control system. - , Two methods for predicting the quantity of wastewater flow were used. First, a p?r catita rate of 50 o.p.C.p.d. was applied.; and secondly, a rate vs estalished by assuming one shower per employee at 10 • minute duration , 2.5 q. p.m. at the shower head. Anticipated flow from the vatar closets was added to the second flow calculation.. it was fourA that the first meth0 resuls in the laroer flow, 16,000 q.p.d. Therefore, this fore vias used as tne design flow. The method of treatment selected for this system is the aerated waste Stabilization•laceons -- more precisey, fcultativeaerated lagoons. This method is a refir?ment ef the aerated laeon process in that the amount of.oxyqen supplied for biological treatment and the horsepcylfer provided for mixing are bropertionEd so as to main- tain a balance of the active bio-Nass lo • the aerated portion of the ystem. The system will provide a multi-cell process, the first being aerated with a sebm?roid turbine and the second provided for poljshing.. Disinfection for the effluent will he provided by a "S[\ URI L" type chlorinator connected to the inlet pipe discharging into final polish- ing pond. • • This system has been designed to provide a minimum of operation and maintenance.. It is anticipated that a certified operator from a nearby municipality or sanitation district will be contracted to maintain and operate the system on a part -tine basis.
