ELECTION TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 6, 2001 A PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE
HOME RULE CHARTER ARTICLE II BY AMENDING SECTION 2.4
RESOLUTION# I 2001
RECITALS
1. The County of Pitkin in the State of Colorado is a duly created political
subdivision of the State, organized and operating as a home rule charter county pursuant to the
general statutes of the State and a county home rule charter ("the Charter") adopted pursuant to
the Colorado Home Rule Powers Act.
2. The members of the Board,of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin
("the Board") have been duly elected, chosen and qualified.
3. Pursuant to Section 8.1.1 of Charter and C.R.S. §30-11-506 the Board may by
resolution propose changes and amendments to the Pitkin County Charter to be submitted to the
qualified electors of Pitkin County.
4. The Home Rule Task Force is recommending that the question be presented to the
voters for their consideration.

ARTICLE II THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
2.4 Terms of Office
The term of office for commissioners shall be four (4) years, with a majority of
commissioners elected at the primary and general election in years in which the President is
elected, and the remaining minority of commissioners elected at the primary and general
election in years in which the Governor is elected.
Individuals serving as Commissioners shall not be restricted as to the number of terms but
shall not serve more than two (2) consecutive four-year terms.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT
2.4 Terms of Office
The term of office for commissioners shall be four (4) years, with a majority of
commissioners elected at the primary and general election in years in which the President is
elected, and the remaining minority of commissioners elected at the primary and general
election in years in which the Governor is elected.
The commissioners shall not be limited in the number of consecutive teens that may be
served.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO, that the following proposed
amendment to the Charter be submitted to the qualified electors of Pitkin County pursuant to
Section 8.1.1 of its Charter and C.R.S. §30-11-506, as a ballot question.
SHALL THE HOME RULE CHARTER BE AMENDED TO ALLOW
COMMISSIONERS TO SERVE AN UNLIMITED NUMBER OF CONSECUTIVE
TERMS IN OFFICE AS LONG AS THE VOTERS OF PITKIN COUNTY WISH TO RE-
ELECT THE COMMISSIONER TO OFFICE?
INTRODUCED, FIRST READ, AND SET FOR PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 25TH
DAY OF JULY 2001.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING PUBLISHED IN THE WEEKEND EDITION OF
THE ASPEN TIMES ON THE 28 DAY OF JULY 2001.
APPROVED UPON SECOND READING AND PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 8TH
DAY OF AUGUST 2001.
PUBLISHED AFTER ADOPTION IN THE WEEKEND EDITION OF THE ASPEN
TIMES ON THE 18TH DAY OF AUGUST 2001.
