Tuesday Januaay 12, 1943, with the following members present: George W. Smith, Chairman; Crest A. Gerbaz, Commissioner; M. M. eihardt, Clerk. J The minutes of the meetings held Lecember 31, 1942 and Jan. 4, 1943 were read and approved. - The Claim of Frances Willoughby for service as Clerk of the District Court Jan. 1 -Jan 11, 943 inclusive was allowed from Ordjlary "Fund; Likewise claim of Boayd King 1111.83. Ordinary County Revenue Warrant No. 1538 Nov. 4, 1942 having been Lost, the payee, Stuart Chishothm requested same to be cancelled, payment thereon stopped and a duplicate issued. I It was so moved, seconded and carried and No. 1538 -A same date same amount ($14.50) issued County Treasurer's Financial eport for the Semi - Annual Period July 1, 1942 to Dec. 31, 11942 was recei d, a d e ami ed. The following Hold -over and Newly Elected County Commissioners of Pitkin County, assembled' at 10:30 A. M. Tuesday January 12, 1943 for the purpose of organizing a Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, for the ensuing year and term: George W. Smith, District No. 1; Orest'A. Gerbaz, District No. 2; Clarence 0. Quam, District No. 3; M. M. Neihardt, County Clerk. The Official Bond of Clarence 0. Quam with The Colulmbia Casualty as Surety in the amount of $5,000.00, having been approved as to form and sufficiency by John R. Clark, District Judge of the Ninth Judicial District was presented. Orest A. Gerbaz was unanimously elected as Chairman for the ensuing year. The following bonds signed by the Principals thereof and by the National Surety Corpora is as surety were approved as to form and sufficiency: M. M. Neihard, $5000.00, County Clerk and Recorder; Otto Johnson y5,000,00, County Sheriff; Lettie Lee Brawl, $2,000.00, County Superintendent of Schools; Chas D. Hart, $5,000.00, County Assessor; Chas. D. Hart, $1,000. 0 (State Bond), County Assessor. The Bond of Louise Berg, 05,000.00, Clerk of the District Court, signed by her and by the Columbia 6asu as Surety was approved as to form and sufficiency. Renewals of the Bond of the following Road Overseers were presented: Henry Hoaglund, John Snyder, Claude Crowley, Roy ti'hitbeck. It was agreed to contribute the sum of $5.00 to the Revenue Department for the purpose of advertising the gale of Delinquent Personal r mperty tax sale certificates. Ordinary County evenue Fund Warrant No. 1538 Nov. 4, 1942 issued to, Stuart Chisholm in the sum of $14.501iaving been reported lost, at the request of said Stuart Chisholm, said warrant was declared cancelled, payment stopped and Duplicate warrant No. 1538 -A was ordered issued instead. Marjorie Jenkinson was re- elected Clerk at a salary of $100.00 per month. Dr. W. H. Twining was re- elected as County Physician at a salary of $400.00 per annum The following Road Overseers were re-elected: Henry Hoaglund, John F. Snyder, Claude Crowley, Roy Whitbeck. Ralph L. McKee was elected as Auditor for the next two years (1943 & 1944), same terms. Otto Johnson was re- elected as Janitor of the Court House at $75.00 per month. The following request for abatement was received: The petition of Catherine J. Lindvig, Aspen, Colo. respectfully shows that the taxes assess ed against your petitioner for the years A. D. 1942, 19 , are erroneous for the follow- ing reasons, viz: DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY Petitioner requests abatement of part of tax on personal property on account of erroneous assessment. Petitioner was assessed with 36 head of cattle add actual count later revealed only 27 head. Original assessment of 36 cattle $950.00 Correct figure would be 710.00 Excessive valuation is 240.00 _ r kit(7)43 _ Original Tax on all personal property 46.25 Abatement requested 6.94 Remaining tax $39.31 Did petitioner protest the valuation placed on this property? Yes When? August 12, 1942 What action was taken by Assessor at that time? Some ore reduction was made but t y actual count was impossible unti late October. That she has not paid said taxes. Wherefore your petitioner mays that the taxes, as afore- said erroneously assessed, may be abated in the sum of $6.94 Catherine J. Lindvig. Approved by the Assessor.
