To the Honorable Orest A. Gerbaz, George W. Smith, Clarence 0. Quam, Members of the Board of
County Commissioners Pitkin County Aspen, Colorado Gentlemen: Laramie, Wyoming
December 9, 1943
Effective January 1st., 1944 I am resigning my position as Assessor of Pitkin Cou ty
and ask that you accept the resignation as of that date.
It is with a feeling of the deepest regret that I submit this letter for your
approval. for I have enjoyed my asstciations in the Court House and shall always treasure the
'memory of the years spent working with you men and the other officials of the County, but the
pressure of economic necessity has made this decision necessary,
I shall be home for a brief period around the 15th. of this monthand shall be happi'
to go over any matters pertaining to the office with you at that tine.
I feel that any suggestions from me regarding a successor world be highly improper
but I sincerely trust that in choosing a man for this position that you will not be guided
entirely by political connections but rather by the drgree of fitness of the man selected.
As you know it cost Pitkin County several thousand dollars to have an up to date and modern
system of records installed in the Assessor's Office by Blaine Hammond and I have faithfully
endeaveored to keep those records complete and in one case 'lave installed a new book, "Record
of Mining Claims" and should certainly hate to see the records scrapped and a return to the
old hit and miss system in vogue in so many places. Very truly yours Chas. D. Hart.
On motion duly seconded and carried, the resignation was accepted with regret
and with a complimentary resolution as to Mr. Hart's efficiency in the work of the office.
he Clerk was instructed to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Hart and to present sane to
the members of the Board for their signatures.
