The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado met at 10:00 A. M. Monday
November 1, 1948, with the following members present: Orest A. Gerbaa Chairman; George W.
Smith, Commissioner; Clarence 0. Quam, Commissioner; C. H. Darrow, Attorney; Wm C. Stapleton
(acting Clerk.
The minutes of the meetings held October 4, 1948 and October 18, 1948 were read and approved.
The Reports of the County Clerk & Recorder, Clerk of the County Court and Clerk of the
District Court for the Month of October 1948 were approved.
The Report of the County Service Officer for the month of October 1948 was examined, approv sd;
and signed.
The Following offers for tax sale certificates was accepted:
$5.00 for Certificate No. 211 of 1913 for 1912 on Lots 21 & 22 Block 11 Eames (Durrance)
5.0C for Certificate No. 1757 of 1897 for 1896 on Lot 23 Block 11 Eames (Durrance)
5.00 for Certificate No. 1874 of 1898 for 1897 on Lot 24 Block 11 Eames (Durrance)
5.00 for Certificate No. 1756 of 1897 for 1896 on Lot 25 Block 11 Eames (Durrance)
5.00 for Certificate No. 2261 of 1903 for 1902 on Lot 26 Block 11 Eames (Durrance)
$5.00 for Certificate No. 1768 of 1897 for 1896 on Lot 27 Block 11 Eames (Durrance) i
$70.00 for Certificate No. 538 of 1902 for 1901 on Lot F Block 101 Aspen (Ann Slavens)
$75.00 for Certificate No. 984 of 1896 for 1895 on Lot G Block 101 Aspen
$50.00 for Certificate No. 8 of 1913 for 1912 on Lot E Block 101 Aspen "
It being the intention of the Board to accept said amounts in Lieu of all Taxes, Penalties
and Interest on Payment of required assignment fees on all outstanding Certificates on said
property by the person or persons buying said tax -sale certificates shown above assigns.
On motion duly seconded and carried the Commissioners authorized the Mountain Utilities Corp}
to install a Street Light at Sullivans Fond expense to be paid by Pitkin County until further))
notice.
The following Resolution was adopted in regard to the rent on office of the County Abstract
James C. Hiatt: RESOLUTION
At a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin, State of
Colorado, held at the County Court House in the City of Aspen, Colorado, on the 1st day of
November, A. D. 1948, there being present Chairman Orest A. Gerbaz, Commissioners Clarence 0.
Quam and George W. Smith, County Clerk M. M. Neihardt and County Attorney C. H. Darrow, the
Following resolution was unanimously passed and adopted,to -wit:
WHEREAS, James C. Hiatt, the duly licnesed and acting abstractor of Pitkin County, Colora o,
is now a tenant in the Court House of said County under agreement with the Board cf County
Commissioners of said County at a rental of Twenty Dollars ($20.00) per month; and, whereas,
it has been made to appear to this Board of County Commissioners that the said James C. Hiatt
is not in a position to pay further rental up to and including the 1st day of January, 1949;
and, whereas, it further appears to this Board that the said James C. Hiatt is the only
abstracter within said County, and is furnishing to the public adequate and efficient service
for which reason it is the opinion of this Board that his office rent should be waived from
(147 Ste! 1st, 1948, to and including January 1st, 1949;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin
State of Colorado, that all rentals for the office space now occupied by James C. Hiatt, Abs-
tractor, of Aspen, Colorado, in the Court House of Pitkin County, Colorado, from Neromber 1st,
1948, to and including January 1st, 1949, should be and they hereby are waived. <T.C7TE
AND IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that this resolution be entered in the recorded proceedings of thi
Board of County Commissioners, and that a copy hereof, duly certified, be delivered by the
Clerk of this Board to the Treasurer of Pitkin County, Colorado.

to be subscribed by and through their Chairman, duly authorized, on the day and )gear first

On motion duly seconded and carried the board adopted the following resolution regarding
the transfer of the Contingent fund to the Ordinary County Rev enue Fund:
RESOLUTION
At a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin, State
of Colorado, held at the County Court House in the City of Aspen, Colorado, on the 1st day o
November, A.D. 1948, there being present Chairman Orest A. Gerbaz, Commissioners Clarence 0.
Quam and George a. Smith, County Clerk M. M. Neihardt and County Attorney C. H. Darrow, the
following resolution was unanimously passed and adopted, to -wit:
WHEREAS, any and all moneys now remaining on deposit in the Contingent Fund of said County
are not and will not be needed for the purposes for which the same were raised during the
remainder of the current fiscal year; and , whereas, all such moneys are needed for the 1
General Fund;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that any and all moneys of Pitkin County, Colorado, in the
Contingent Fund are not and will not be needed for the purposes for which the same were
raised during the remainder of the present fiscal year, and that all such moneys are needed or
expenditures from the General Fund of said county, for which reason the same should be and h ;.reby
are transferred from the Contingent Fund of said County of Pitkin to its General Fund.
AND IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that this resolution be entered in the recorded proceeding s of
this Board of County Commissioners, and that a copy hereof, duly certified, be delivered by the
Clerk of this Board to the Treasurer of Pitkin County, Colorado.

The Board authorized the Chairman and Clerk to pay election expenses incurred at the
General Election to be held on Novembefs 2, 1948.
The County Treasurer is authori and instructed to transfer the sum of $3,000.00 from
the State Special Road Fund to the Special Road (highway) Fund. i-..
At the suggestion of the Board of County Commissioners thde at a previous date the Board
of Trustees of the Pitkin County Public Hospital have made application for inspection and
approval to become a member of the Colorado Hospital Service which is the necessary step
to become approved by the Blue Cross Plan.
The Following was received from the County Superintendent of Schools relative to the Specia
School Levies for the year 1948 -1949:
