TO ESTABLISH A POLICY TO SUPPORT TEiE ASSIGHIKENT OF A
NEW VHF TELEVISION CHANNEL TO GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO,
AND TO URGE THE FEDERAL COMM[?NICATIONS COIIIiISSION TO
ADOPT A RULE TO THAT EFFECY !
� W�REAS, the communities of Garfield, P3tkin, and Eagle Counties do not �
have access Co local television service; and
WHEREAS, the three above-named count3es of the Tri-County Region are
baund together by the Region's unique geography and co�on interests; and
WHEREAS, the Tri-County Region is experiencing rapid and stable population
grvwth and economic development; and
WHEREAS, lacal television service is necessary to provide the people of [he
Tri-County Region with a local source of news, public affairs, informatlonal, and
entertainment programs; to provide the local governments and civic and community
organizations with a valuable outlet to the co�unities they serve; to provide
the commercial community wi.th the most effective means of communicatioa available
for purposes ot advertising and public service; and, Co provide the substantial
recreational population with a vital source of informaCion concerning regional
and 1oca1 activities; and
WHEREAS, Glenwood Springs, the county seat of Garfield County, is an appro-
priate and convenient location for a television station serving the Tri-County
Region;
BS IT RESOLVEA, that the Pitkin County Board of Commissioners support the
assigivaent of a new VHF television channel to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and
urge the Federal Communications Commission to adopt a rule to that effect, to
provide a first local television service to the Trf-County Region of Garfield, �
Pitkin:and Eag1e Counties. �
