RESOLUTION BOARD OF PITKTN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Resolution No. 78- iCL ` � � �� . ��� "� �': Wf�REAS, inclusion in the Constitution of the United �: - _ � States is the basic right of every citizen, and ' ; . � � i..'_:_.:�..` WHEREAS, women have been and continue to be excluded ;' from the Constitution, and �' WI�REAS, Pitkin County views this exclusion of over one half of the population of the United States from the pro- tection of the Constitution as intolerable, and WHEREAS, the people of the State oE Colorado have spoken in favor of the Equal Rights Amendment but are being denied the beneEits of it because of the failure of three states to ratify, and WHEREAS, at the present time, the following states have not ratified the Equal Rights Amendment: Nevada Utah Arizona _ Illinois Missouri Oklahoma - Arkansas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Georgia Florida South Carolina ` s North Carolina Virginia, and WHEREAS, many organizations have adopted a policy of holding conventions only in states which have ratified the ERA, thus providing incentive for other states to do the same, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners have been requested by the National Organization of Women to do the same, which, with certain li.mitations, the Board is will.ing to do, . i� , � a �. `z I; ,... �.; . � , .., �#_ . .. .. .. . i`' ::r�k�- ' !.F x�.z_`(��4:� - . ?� L",�.�^���; , `x.t' ri;+i'-., • .. . � . � . . . '1�����: y NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County � j _ Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, that from and after the effective date of this resolution, no Pitkin ' � f; County monies sha11 be spent on out-of-state travel, food ; or accommodations for County officials or employees who attend meetings or conventions in states which, at the time ( :- of the meeting or convention, have not ratified the Equal Rights Amendment. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this prohibition Shall not apply with respect to those expenses incurred (1) in the extradition or other delivery of prisoners or (2) by County personnel or officers engaged in business found by the Board of County Commissioners necessary for the administration of County government (provided, however, that the official or employee has made reasonable attempts to change the place of ineeting). BE IT EURTHER RESOLVED that the resolution shall expire " on March 22, 1979, or on adoption of the Equal Rights Amendment, whichever first occurs.
