Provisions for Transporting Backpacks � � Backpacks wili be transported on the existing seats in the � � ' buses. Since the average of 30 ba�kpackers per day represents ,� a small portion of the daily visitor use of 1,800 people, , storage for backpacks may not be needed. If packpack use - becomes too great, then one row of seats from the back of Yhe . bus wi7i be removed to accommodate five to ten backpacks, or racks will be installed on the buses. I ; 3. Skateboards If skateboard use on the Maroon Road is deemed to be a safety hazard by either the County or Forest Service, skate- boards will not be allowed on the buses. � � ...' . Intermediate stops viill also be made ' . on rider request for both pickup and de]ivery. �j . Provisions for Late "Sweep" 6uses at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. ``� 7here are going to be a certain number of people v�ho are going ; -+ to visit the Bells before 6:00 p.m. and return to Highlands � /� afLer the buses have stopped operating. Scheduling ' `� I Buses will depart every 20 minutes. During peak hou•rs, and � � if deemed necessary by either party, buses will be dispatched at less than 20 minute intervals. � � � � 6. Procedures for Operation Maintenance and Security of Parking Lot { In order not to disrupt the Highlands daily activities, the ; ; Sky Ride, tennis, restaurant, etc., the parkin9 iot fbr Maroon �� ; Bel7s visitors will be ma�ked off separately. Trash cans, i� � � . portable toilets and other equipment will be located within �j � the marked off area. These facilities �•iill be provided as . ,� � j needed. It'wili be the responsibility of the support personnel . � to clean up the parking lot on a daily basis. The need for � �`� night security is not anticipated. If needed, it can be pro- ,�: � • ,� vided at a later date. ' 1 � � Adequate area will be made available in the Aspen Highlands � i Parking Lot for at least 350 cars at one time. � Pursuant to clause �-4 of the Cooperative Agreement, it is the � responsibility of the Forest Service to prov�de uniformed � y initial contact personnel; hovrever, because of the inability of �" : ��� the Forest Service• to hire qualified personnel for this period, � the County agrees to provide such personnei. The Forest Service i will reimburse the County, upon presentation of billing, for � � the total amount of $4,830.00 to cover the cost of the Cow�ty's i providing such personnel for the period of June 29 through ta � August 19, 1979. The installation, operation and removal of the entrance sta- j tion and closure of the rarking lots shall be the responsibility � of the Forest Service. The entrance station will be manned • from at least 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 9. The preparation and printing of a brochure describing the . � bus system will be the responsibility of the Forest Service. . An initial printing of 20,000•brochures will be made. ; ' 10. The leasing, renting or otherwise providing for adequate buses �'• shall be the responsibility of the County. These buses shall . comply with Clause B.3. of the Cooperative Agreement. , �3 l . � II. CaPacity ' � 1 • :j The system is computed on the basis of an assumed average . ; ridership per day season. ; The County will provide fiive buses and has several backup I buses and vans which wi11 be able to handle loads much greater than the anticipated use per day. Peak loads of up to 500 �� people per hour can be acconunodated. The road �vill be closed to all motorized vehicles between � ! ' the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. except for conmiercial, , publicly-owned and group vehicles (i.e., church, ctubs, etc.) with a minimum seating capacity of 11 persons, and those vehicles assigned to an overnight camping unit. Hikers and � f' bicyclists will not be restricted. Horse-carrying vehicles � will be allowed to pass the entrance station to use the East '. %� i Maroon parking lot. Non-ambulatory persons will also be ,• f allowed to enter with private vehicles. t � - . 14. The system will initially operate for a 52-day period (June 29-Aug. 19). The County and the Forest Service will � conduct an evaluation meeting two aleeks prior to the end of • � � this period to determine if continuation of the program should occur for an additional fifteen days (Aug. 20-Sept 3). Per { clause C.1. of the Cooperative Agreement, an evaluation � meeting will be conducted at the end of the season. 15. Pets will not be allowed on the buses. 16. The County�wi71 install sound reproducing machines (tape �; recarders) and tapes in each bus and van for playing tapes of ' interpretive talks during each bus trip..
