ECEPTION RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO, COWCERNING
HISTORIC PRESERVATION GUIDELINES FOR
REDSTONE AND CRYSTAL RIVER VALLEY

WHEREAS, the Pitkin Caunty Planning and Zoning Corranission considered
ResoTution No. 80-27 (dated Plovember 19, 19B0} which recamiended amendments '
to the Pitkin County Code, Title II (Land Use Code) which are intended to
insure that the Redstone Historic Preservation Co�renission will act as a
� referral agency to review subdivision, special review and building permit p�

, app]ications using design guidelines for restoration, renovation, and con- .�'
struction (inc7uding additions to existin9 structures) of historic structures
� in Redstone, within one thousand feet of the boundaries of Redstone, and as
specifically designated in the Crystal River Valley within Pitkin County; and 2
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County> at a special ��
�= meeting held on January 27, 1981, also considered Resolution No. 80-27 (dated � ��
; _�'
#. . . November 19, 1980) of the P7anning and Zoning Commission which recommended such
i�; amendments and considered the recortunendation of the Redstone Historic Preserva- ��
tion Commission to adopt .these amendments to the Pitkin Eounty Code; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, at a regular meeting held on
" Feburary 23, 1981 again considered such amendments, to include revised lan9uage

z in response to the evidence and testimony heard at the previous meetings, �
� � NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESQIVED, that the Board of County Commissioners of �
a
' � Pitkin County, Colorado, adopts tfie follawing amendments to the Pitk9n County
� Gode, Title II (Land Use Code):

Section 1
That Section 5-405.1 of the Land Use Code be repealed and reenacted as .F�
follows (new language is underlined):
(a) This regulation shall app]y to the following areas, structures, and `
sites within the unincorporated area of Pitkin County: �
(1) Areas, sites, and structures lying within the established boundaries �
"'' and within one thousand (1000) feet of the established boundaries of �

! the townsites of Independence, Redstone, Ruby and Ashcroft. �
; ; (2) A71 structures which are identified in the Redstone/Crystal River

Historic Preservation Commiss�on.
Section 2 ;
r That in line one, Section 5-405.1(c) of the Land Use Code, reference to �
°(a) (1) - (4)" shall be repealed and reenacted to read "(a) (1) - (3)".

That a new Section 5-405,7(d) entitled "Length of Applicability" shall be �
enacted as follows: �
(d) Within two years of the adoption of Resolution No. 81- , the 8oard of �
. County Cortmissioners shall conduct a town meetinq in Redstone to consider the '
�,�� administrative effectiveness of the Historic Preservation Guidelines. 7he }:
#
� Comnissioners shall consider public cortenents in determining whether the guide-
lines should be retained amended or repealed. A decision on the action to
be taken wili be made at a subsequent meeting.
Section 4
That Sections 5-405.2(d) and 5-405.2(e) of the Land Use Code shall be :s
repealed and reenacted as follows: �

�d) For areas, sites, and structureswhich are included in the Redstone
Historic Inventory, Historic Preservation 6uide7ines for Redstone and the
�stal River Va71ey (adopted on JanuarY 21, 1981 bv the Redstone H.P.C. and
as amended from time to time) sha11 be used as a basis for administrative �
recommendations.
(e) Appropriate referral agencies sF�all include but not be limited to the �
Aspen Historical Society, Colorado Historica] Society, and Redstone Historic 5 �

Preservation Commission. I �
