Pursuant to CRS 30-10-306,the Pitkin County Board of Commissioners (hereinaker ,; ,;.- — _. the "Board") is responsible for dividing the county into counry commissioners ` .., ----- _ districts. 2. The Board and county staff evaluated the district boundaries according to the criteria ' outlined in the state statutes. Those criteria are that each district shall be nearly equal in population as possible, shall be numbered consecutively, and shall not be 4 subject to alteration more ohen than once every two years. They atso used the - foflowing additional criteria: retain the existing integrity of districts; keep Board ; _ members in their same districts;split Aspen among three districts;keep neighborhood '4' " caucuses intad within districts; use physical boundaries as much as possible; and '` r , make the boundaries compatible with senate and house district boundaries and school district boundaries. 3. In dealing with the criteria to match population as closely as possible, the total 1990 ' Census population figures were divided by 5 and a variance of 5%either way was aliowed. 4. Once these county commissioner district boundaries have been adopted, the county clerk will redraw the boundaries of the voting precincts if it is found necessary to do so to conform with the new boundaries. If this redrawing of the precincts is necessary, it will be done in a timely manner. s- . ' , ' S. The Board has determined that the boundaries as described ion Exhibit"A",attached, ,•"'¢. provide districts which are as nearly equal in population as possible and at the same time best serve the people of Pitkin County.
