��� FEDERAL ASSET MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

�� WHEREAS, the Federal Government, specifically
��„ I
t`?' the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land I
t�
t Management, is planning to dispose of certain tracts of
�� `.
'" public land through what is being called the Federal Asset
�s.�. i
€�-,1 Management Program; and !
�� ;
'�; WHEREAS, in the course of determining what j
I
�:� public lands might be appropriate for disposal under this �

_ �:.. �,�
program, a number of tracts have been identified as �
suitable for disposal which presently render unique and I
��_;� valuable services to the public; and i
F� WHEREAS, those services include the preservation
i'
v of open space, wildlife habitat, scenic values, unspoiled

� k� watersheds, developed and undeveloped recreational
t� t.,
;, o p portunities, seedlin g tree production, wilderness � ��
-� opportunities, definition of urbanized areas, and � �
�, cultural resources; and

; WHEREAS, all of the services and attributes

noted above are likely to be lost should these tracts
� be transferred to private land; and
i
"� WHEREAS, such a transfer would severely disrupt
� and contradict established County land use planning
� �
` policies; and i:'.:;�'..'.
WHEREAS, the County £inds that the land tenure �i°�i =
adjustment inechanisms presently available to Federal land F ' .
i .
managers, including the Small Tracts Act, the Townsite �
i
Act, Recreation and Public Purpose Leases, and land trade �
authority, allow ample opportunity for adjusting public i ,
land boundaries to alleviate management difficulties; j •
and �
WHEREAS, the County finds that the Asset �
- Management Program is fiscally irresponsible in that it �

y� THEREPORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED on this day by

,,� the Pitkin County Commissioners, the following: �

of need for the Asset Management Program,

of public resources into private Iands without

;, a sham and a disgrace to the supposedly professional

;�.�, land managers who are perpetrating it upon

y�� 2) That the Congress of the United States is
l,- obligated to proteck the American public

� � from the adverse impacts of this program

��r and is hereby implored to defeat any legislation

�n which is intzoduced with the aim of perpetuating '�`>',�.�

or abetting the Asset Management Program. �',�
3) That any and all land tenure acljustments

- within Pitkin County shall be resisted and j
discouraged by the County by any available i
means unless those afljustments are found i
to be beneficial on a site-specific basis I
