a; A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF
� COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORA.DO,
� ENDOR3ING A RECOVERY PLAI3 FOR THE ENDANGERED GRAY WOLF
Resolution#94-�
RECITALS
�. 1. The gray wolf is a predator native to Pitkin County and the State of Colorado.
2. The federal and state governments exterminated Colorado's wolves during the
. first half of the Twentieth Century.
�'� 3. Native predators,including wolves,are essential to complete ecosystems and the
health of other species found therein.
4. The citizens of Pitkin County and the State of Colorado depend on complete
ecosystems for economic, spiritual and physical vitality.
5. The U.S.Fish and Wildtife Service determined the White River National Forest
� and vicinity can potentially support 243 wolves, aod that wolves would more likely limit
- themselves in the region[o between 85 and 170 wolves.
' 6. The reintroduction of gray wolves may constitute a threat of unknown magnitude
4 � l� to domestic livestock.

7. The reintroduction of gray wolves may result in cross breeding with the dog and
the offspring may constitute a threat to the safety of humans.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Pitkin County, Colorado that it endorses the inclusion of Pitkin County, the White River

National Forest and the 5tate of Colorado.within a recovery plan for the endangered gray wolf.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
i. That no reintroduction would occur until a program oversight panel including
livestock producers and public safety officials has been formed.
2. That this oversight panel will be given authority to design a compensation
progtam and adequate funding will be in place for potential livestock losses.
3. That no reintroduction will occur until this panel has determined that the threat
to livestock will be minimal as estimated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
:� 4. That public safety officials have determined that reinuoduction will not result in
an uncontrollable population of feral dogs that would constitute a threat to the safety of humans.
