In order to insure that the County £ Jail in Aspen is not used to house juveniles, the Pitkin County Sheriff's �' - --� Department has implemented a juvenile ofEender screening program. The program operates by having properly trained juvenile specialists evaluate offenders 2 who have been detained by one of the Eive laza enforcement agencies in Pitkin � County. The screener then attempts to place the child utilizing the least restrictive means available. Secause the closest state operated juvenile t deeention #acility is located 120 miles away in Grand Junction, the need to ��' 3 divert the juvenile detainee to the least restrictive means oI control is even more pressing.
