1. The Board of County Commissioners (the "Board") �r�;.:;"`.;.
articulated its position on the four-laning of Highway 82 in 1989. '•ti �-

2. There has been discussion of what is known as the "split :�;=�. .`
� alternative" for the four-laning of the hiqhway, which would put f�;: :::
: two lanes on each side of the river in Snowmass Canyon. ��'

•`- 3. The Board feels that citizens are interested in knowing ty.,,.
; if the Board is willing to reconsider its position.

4. The Board further finds that the factors which led to .°;s�
their position on the four-laning of Highway 82 in 1989 were that ��
" putting the highway lanes on the north side of the river would: "'�'��
a) consume land and result in the loss of a significant
number of mature trees, and would require extensive cut
and fill secti�ns along much of its length; �T' •
b) impede the wildlife movement corridors resulting in a �'
greater incidence of traffic-related wildlife 7.oss, �
further fragmentation of wildlife habitat, and additional �'''"�
risk to citizens on the highway; "�i� '�
c} introduce significant negative impacts on residents of
� the County who now enjoy protection from the impacts of
; highway construction and use.
� The Eoard further finds that these factors have not changed. "s

� NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County ,� .
__� Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado that it has not changed
its position on the aliqnment of the four-laning of Highway 82 in
Snowmass Canyon. The Soard's position is that the preferred
alignment is the existing alignment and not the "split alternative"
� �1 on both sides of the river. �i
