Re: Federal Wildfire Resouzces
Dear Jim,
� This letter shall serve to document the position of the
Board of County Commissioners and the Sheriff of Pitkin County
with respect to the use of and payment for federal wildfire
resources by Pitkin County on non-wildEire incidents.
It is our understanding and intent that:
q I. The request and use of federal wildfire resources by
�l:r, : Pitkin County on non-wildfire incidents occurring
��`� within Pitkin County shall be onlv in the event that
there is a direct and immediate threat to life and/or
' property as determined by the Sheriff.
II. The payment for the use of the resources shall follow ;
the terms outlined in the Agreement for Cooperative •
- " ,•.I Wildfire Protection in Pitkin County, dated 12/20/42.
Since the resources are to be utilized for non-wildfire
���� incidents, the county understands that it is fully
responsible for attd intends to reimburse the Colorado
�, State Forest Service far the costs of all resources
requested by an authorized individual. i
TII. The authorization for requesting resources shall follaw
the terms outlined in the Initial Attack Aircraft
Agreement for Wildfire Suppression between Colorado
' State Forest Service and Pitkin County, dated 6/21/88,
amended 6/25/1990.

IV. The use of the resources shall not conflict or deviate :�,
from the established policies and procedures of the
,_ appropriate federal aqency and shall follow the terms :,:,; ,
' outlined in the Pitkin County Cooperative Wildfire
Protection Agreement Annual Opezating and Mobil.ization
Plan as updated annually.
v. The use of federal avzation resources for law �'
enforcement incidents is excluded without prior
permission from the appropriate federal agency.
� VZ. The use of the resources is subject to their �� �
+ availability.

� VII. All resource requests shall be made direatly to the
� B.L.M., Grand Junction District and in accordance with
� the procedures outlined in the Pitkin County <;;. ,
� Cooperative Wildfire Protection Agreement Annual
! Operating and Mobilization Plan as updated annually.

; Although the above referenced agreements re2ate specifically
� to wildfire, the Sheriff and Board of County Commissioners agree
• that the terms of these agreements shall apply to non-wildfire
i incidents and will abide by such as stipulated in this letter.
By virtue of the ability to access these resources, we may
3 better serve and protect the residents and visitors of Pitkin �
County. -
