Frahcis Kri2manich commented that the purpose of this meeting is 3'�;�
to discuss the Floor Area Ratio portion of the revised land use d'
code. He said the most important aspect of the new floor area
definition is that it exempts subgrade spaces from floor area. The '+,,a;
space below natural grade exempts basement up to 20 feet in depth, ��� v
� and is not counted for floor area. Garages and carports are .
exempted to 750 square feet and that has already been done through
ordinance approximately one year ago. Crawl spaces calculations
are not counted for, floor area if they are less than 5 foot 6
inches in height. Also, attic space is similarity treated. He �,,
said the AR-1 Zone Uistrict excludes different floor area areas and i �
that is not change from the existing code.

jJoe Wells commented that if an attic is finished space then it ;6
�E should county against the FAR. However, if it is unfinished space �:
,� ± he does not understand what the issue is. �

`` Krizmanich said the reason it was developed was that the existing �
code does not define it. Some times attic space can be a gray area
and this is an attempt to define that type of space so people know
what they are dealing with and we don't have to get into that grey �

Lenny Oates commented that he supports adoption of the FAR portion ,;s�:;.r. t•
of the code as written with the changes that Wayne suggested in �•r�:� '�

_ . John LaSalle commented that he agrees with Lenny Oates and supports I � ^ .
the FAR portion of the code as written. He said the point of FAR �
is to keep visual bulk under control and the slight increases here �
having to do with overhangs and subgrade space don't add anything ,p!.<;:•_
in terms of visual bulk but gives people a little more room. �ys,q;

Trve moved approval. Tuite seconded the motion. "
Tuite asked that a straw vote be taken to determine whether or not •�'�
the board will support tihe motion or whether it needed to be tabled 3
pending Commissioner Ireland's attendance.
Both Ethridge and Child expressed a concern with regard to the -
� subqrade space as proposed in the legislation.

After a discussion, it was agreed that the matter should be tabled
and the hearing continued for discussion of that particular section •
• and other issues associated with the proposed legislation.
True withdrew his motion. Tuite withdrew his secoad.

NovemHer 3, 1943. With a secoad by Ethridge, the motion passed
