` COLORADO INITIATING A BALLOT QUESTION TO BE SUBMITTEb TO THS
ELECTORATE OF PITRIN COUNTY AT THE PRIMARY ELECTION CONCERNING
AMENDMENT OF THE PITKIN COUNTY HOME RULE CHARTER TO PROVIDE FOR

WFiEREAS, a recent amendment to State statutes, C.R.S.
� 1973, Section 38-51-107 has made the position of County Surveyor
1,.� a mandatory office in each county to check land survey plats and �

�: right-of-way survey plats, which office was to be made by t
�};= �
- appointment by the Board of County Commissioners when no land
-,�;f surveyor in the county held such office of county surveyor; and
��
'c� WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners appointed an
.,;:� employee who is a registered land surveyor to perform these �
,,�;� tasks, an average oF 2 plats per month, in addition to his
:.j -
;l� regular workload; and
y WHEREAS, the position of county surveyor is to be
,''��� ultimately filled by election unless otherwise provided by the
�:�
`"� county�s Home Rule Charter; and
WfiEREAS, THE Board of County Commissioners wishes to
establish the position of Pitkin County Surveyor, to be a part-
>-� time officer, appointed by the Board af County commissioners ' „

RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, '

1. Election. There shall be presented to the �

� electorate of Pitkin County a proposed amendment to the Pitkin g
County Aome Rule Charter at the primary election on August 9,
� 1988.
��r.� 2. Ballot Question. The Special Election shall
"���� present the following question to the electorate:

`L`,:;� "Shall the Pitkin County Home Rule Charter be
amended by the addition of Article V, Section
5-9 entitled "County Surveyor", which section
''r`�R shall read as follows:

- °:_;� 5.9.1. The county Surveyor shall exercise
- all of the powers and perform all of the acts
�;;;-� and duties to he exercised by the County
;;7Yr'� Surveyor under the laws of the State of
Colorado.
?;.;� 5.9.2. The County Surveyor shall be ap-
pointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the
rr�.� Board of County Commissioners.

5.9.3. The compensation and fees to be paid
,,T_� to the County Surveyor for the performance of
his duties shall be established from time to
