AMENDING THE PERSONNEL MANUAL
TO REFLECT THE FITNESS/WELLNESS BENEFIT
IN LIEU OF YEAR-END BONUS BENEFIT

RECITALS
1. The County wishes to reduce its year-end bonus cash
liability.
2. The County wishes to improve the fitness/wellness of
the employee population through implementation of this benefit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO:
That the Personnel Manual be amended to reflect the
fitness/wellness benefit in lieu of year end bonus benefit.

Employees are eligible to participate on the first day of the
month following the date of hire. Employees not eligible to
participate on January 1st of each year are eligible for a
benefit equivalent to $25.00 per month beginning on the first day
of the month following the date of hire.
Terminating employees will have the benefit pro -rated based upon
$25.00 per month and be expected to return any monies expensed
for the wellness benefit to Pitkin County at termination. Pro-
ration will be based upon the following criteria:
1. One month based upon a termination date on or after the
fifteenth (15th) of the month.
2. Employees that terminate on the 1st through the 14th day of
the month will not be deemed to have completed an entire month of
employment.
Reimbursement
Employees desiring reimbursement for eligible expenses need only
submit proof of payment to their immediate Supervisor who will
approve and forward the expense to the Personnel Director for
review and approval.
Any expenses denied will be forwarded to the County Manager for
review. Denial of any fitness/wellness expense will be
communicated to the employee by the County Manager.
Miscellaneous Matters
Non -Reimbursed Expenses: those employees that have expenses
denied as non -reimbursable by the Personnel Director may request
a review of the decision with the County Manager to allow for

FITNESS/WELLNESS BENEFIT
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
The Fitness/Wellness benefit program is designed to encourage
wellness through preventative health measures and fitness through
specific cardio -vascular activities. These issues can be
accomplished through the use of physicals and other items
relating to health and the purchase of equipment, memberships and
time.
Research provided to Pitkin County from the Cooperative Extension
of Colorado State University indicate two (2) categories of
exercises that are intended to promote cardio -vascular fitness.
Type one (1) Exercises are very vigorous. They will condition
your heart and lungs, burn off a lot of calories and give you
many other benefits such as more energy and greater resistance to
stress. These activities include:
Cross -Country Skiing
Hiking
Ice Hockey
Jogging
Jumping Rope
Rowing
Running in Place
Stationary Cycling
Type Two_ (2) Exercises are moderately vigorous and can be
excellent conditioners. When done briskly, they give the same
benefits as type one (1) activities. They include:
Bicycling
Downhill Skiing
Basketball
Calisthenics
Field Hockey
Handball
Racquetball
Soccer
Squash
Swimming
Tennis
Walking
Golf
Equipment, memberships and specific items relating to these
cardio -vascular activities can be purchased through the
Fitness/Wellness Benefit Program.
Items relating to Wellness to be considered for reimbursement
purposes include:
