Global Warming Implementation Series _ ,of ;��
! WAEREAS, the County of Pitkin, Colorado has long supported
environmental protection and natural resource management proqrams
and policies; and,
:;;.-j WHEREA5, The County of Pitkin, Colorado, has long supported �
� state and federal legislation that would help cities and counties �
= �_=:4'� develop strong and successful programs to protect the environment '
- ��`" and conserve natural resources; and i

� WHEREAS, public concern about protecting the Earth is
`-�� rapidly rising as new scientific information about environmental
threats such as global warming, ozone depletion, acid rain, air
; pollution and more becomes available; and, .

- WHEREAS, citizens and business leaders are now recoqnizing � °
;�``� environmental protection and resource conservation as essential
prerequisites to, and indeed the foundation of, sustained
?� ?. prosperity and economic development; and,

_y�_�-� WHEREAS, cities and counties have many critical
environmental responsibilities, including land use planning,
, ,.;# management of transportation systems, solid and liquid waste
_ management, and much more; and,
::�,v.�
WHEREAS, almost twenty years ago, millions of Americans
•���� joined together on Earth Day to express and unpreaedented concern
'_:�=� for the environment, and their collective action resulted in the
'=''� passage of sweeping laws to protect our air, our water, and the
.��='-'� lands around us; and,

WHEREAS, citizens and their governments must again renew
_a;�:,� their commitm' nt to meet the global environmental challenge; and,
. _T�V;� `.t
WHEREAS, to invigorate this effort, we must again stand up
_ toqether in th cities, towns and villages around the world for a
day of collective action to declare our shared resolve: �`

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PITKIN COUNTY SOARD OF �
� '� COMMISSIONERS that it: ` �;
^' 1) Endorses Earth Day 1990 and declares that April 22, 1990 ""`'
�� shall be designated and proclaimed as Earth Day in the p `
`'`�'41 Caunty of Pitkin, Colorado, and that the day shall be set ;:
