The Report of the County Clerk and Recorder was approved and signed.
The following Notice of Sale -of Lands at Public Auction was ordered Posted and Published:
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the undersigned will offer for sale, at public auction,
on Monday, the L1.th day of February, A. D. 1952, at the hour10:00 o'clock in the forenoon, at
the front door of the County Court House; in the City of Aspen, Colorado, all the right, titl.
and interest of Pitkin County, Colorado, in and to the hereinafter described real estate, fo
cash, and will sell and convey without covenants or warranty to the highest bidder of the
bid shall be accepted), all the right, title and interest of said county in and to such real
estate, without any abstract of title, but the county reserves the right to reject any and
all bids which may be less than the appraised value placed upon the property by the Assessor
of said County in accordance with the provisions of Section 211 (1), Chapter 14}2, Vol. 4, '3"

Any and all sales will be made subject to the rights of tenants or others in possession.
A cash deposit of twenty per cent (20 %) must be made with bid and the balance of bid must
be paid in cash upon delivery of deed which shall be without covenants or warranty, within
ninety (90) days after sale, and failure to pay such balance within said period of ninety
days shall cancel the sale involved, without notice, and thereupon the county shall retain
the deposit :made with.bid, as liquidated damages.

Nominations were opened for temporary Chairman and upon motion Orest A. Gerbaz was elected
to serve.
' Nominations were then opened for chairman to serve the Board for the ensuing year.
C; 0. Quam was nominated and unanimously elected as Chairman_ and he took the chair.
T. J. Sardy was Nominated to serve as Vice - Chairman and unanimously elected.
The following appointments were then made: Miss Louise Berg was appointed to serve on the
Library Board for the term of four years.
Dr. Robert C. Lewis was appointed to serve as County Physician for the ensuing year.
Road Overseers John Snyder, Claude Crowley and Roy Whitbeck were re- appointed to their
various distracts to serve during the pleasure of the Board.
Hazel Loushin was appointed to serve on the Pitkin County Hospital Board in place of
Francis M. Kalmes for a term of 5 years.
Pitkin County Bank was named as Depository for the ensuing year.
Mr. Ralph L. McKee was appointed as County Auditor at a salary of 4.00.00 per year subject
to change.
The Application's of Thatcher L. Shaw and George J. Petre for County Attorney were discuss :d.
Upon motion duly seconded and carried a vote was taken for County Attorney. George J. Petre
was declared elected. Gerbaz and Quern voting yes and T. J. Sardy voting no.
The increase of the salaries of the Welfare Department according to the plan recommended
by the State Welfare Department was allowed. • 1
The following Resolution and order was unanimously passed and adopted regarding Custodian
for the ensuing year:
RESOLUTION AND ORDER
WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, by a resolttion dat :d
the 5th day of March, A.D. 1951, employed Lorain R. Berwick, duly elected Sheriff of Pitkin
County, as the custodian'and janitor of the Court House e -of Pitkin County, Colorado fop the
year beginning January 1, 1951 and ending December 31, 1951;
AND WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners have agreed to extend and continue the

iccepted: The bid of Mr. LeRoy Waterman in the amount of 16.9 cents per gallon being the
_owest bid for gasoline it was accepted. The bid submitted by Earl Mosbarger for Conoco
Diesel Fuel in the amount of 14.9 cents per gallon being the lowest bid it was accepted.

The minutes of the meetings held January 7, and January 18, 1952 were read and approved.
The Reports of the Clerk of the County Court, Clerk of the District Court, County Clerk,
Sheriff and Service Officer were examined,approved and signed.
The bid of Mr. John Loushin in the amount of $150,00 for the Iron Silver Placer , U. S.
Survey No. 5963 as posted and advertised according to law being the highest and best bid
offered and Board deeming this Bid sufficient the property was sold to Mr. Loushin.
Whereupon the following Order was unanimously passed and adopted: j

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin caused to be sold at !
Public auction, a tract of land hereinafter described, which sale was conducted in the manner

The appointment of Evelyn Yerkes as Superintendent of Pitkin County Hospital by the Hospital
Board was unanimously approved by the Board of Commissioners.
The resignation of Mr. L. M. Elisha from the Fitkin County Public Hospital Board was
accepted with regret and upon reccomendation by the remaining members of the Board Mr. Frank 1
Myers was approved to fill the remainder of his term of office.

REPORT OF NECROLOGY COMMITTEE
Your Necrology Committee deeply regrets and with a profound sense of loss and sorrow we are
called upon to record the death of Commissioner GEORGE W. SMITH.
As we pause in this brief moment to pay tribute to the unselfish, faithful and conscientious
service to his community, county and to the State of Colorado, we feel the inadquacy of words
to express our respect and our sorrow.
BE IT RESOLVED That we extend heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of our late
associate in their bereavement; that the full obituary be published in the official report of
this, the Forty- fourth Annual Convention of the Colorado State Association of County Commiss-
ioners, in Denver, Colorado, January 5, 1952; and that a copy hereof be forwarded to the
Board of County Commissioners of his county with the request that they notify the family of
the deceased of this action,

The following resolution regarding transfer of Welfare funds passed and
adopted: RESOLUTION AND ORDER
WHERJAS,certai.n moneys were appropriated to various individual funds for the Public Welfare
Department of the County of Pitkin for the year ending December 31, 1951;
AND WHEREAS, at the end of said year there were remaining in these various funds the following
amounts, to -wit:
State Special Relief Fund 45.78
Aid to Needy Disabled Fund 506.08
Aid to Blind Fund 180.09
Aid to Dependent Children Fund 686.79
Welfare Administration Fund 931.4

AND WHEREAS, by law the use of these funds has been discontinued, and the expenses for :ahi

these unexpended sums be transferred to the Public Welfare Fund;

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Fitkin, State of Colorado, app-
ropriated certain moneys to the Building and Improvement Fund and Operators and Chauffeurs
Fund and Fitkin County Library Fund for the year ending December 31, 1951;
AND WHEREAS, at the end of said year there was remaining in the Building and Improvement
Fund the sum of 32,036.23; in the Operators and Chauffeurs Fund, the sum of 312.56; and in
the Pitkin County Library Fund the sum of $399.14;
AND ;d,'IEREAS, by law the use of these funds has been discontinued and the expenses for whic
these funds were used paid out of the Ordinary County Revenue Fund, and whereas it is necess.y
that these unexpended sums be transferred to the Ordinary County Revenue Fund;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin,
,State of Colorado, that the unspent balance in the amount of ,2,036.23 in the Building and
Improvement Fund, the unspent balance 312.56 in the Operators and Chauffeurs Fund and the
unspent balance of 5399.14 in the Pitkin County Library Fund be and the same hereby are
transferred to the Ordinary County Revenue Fund.
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Clerk and Recorder and the Treasurer of Pitkin County,
Colorado,transfer these funds on the books of their respective offices.
The following offer for tax sale certificates was accepted:

in colutbia Mining District U. S. Survey No 5265. (Irving M. Rice)
The application of Stuart Mace to erect a telephone line uron the Right of Wayof Pitkin
County road up Castle Creek to Ashcroft was rejected because Pitkin County does not have
authority to issue permission to build said telerhone line as their agreement reads that
the Right of Way is to be used for Road purposes only.

The Jury list for the April 1952 term of District Court was selected and the Clerk of

The following names were selected by the County Commissioners to serve on the Pitkin Count'
A gricultural Committee to assist in the Re- Appraisal of Rural lands.
Charles Love, Rene Duroux and Stanley Natal
The above appointments were to replace Louis Love, George Letey'and Justin Cerise who have
moved from the County and could no longer serve in that capacity.
These appointments along with the original appointment`s made on'February 6, 1950 at page
264 of these commissioners proceedings complete the new committee.'

The following Resolution and Order concerning a lost Tax Sale Certificate was unanimously
passed and adopted:
RESOLUTION AND ORDER
WHEREAS, on the 1st day of February, A.D. 1952, Pitkin County, Colorado sold to Theodore
Cooper, whose address is 4120 Eliot Street, Denver, Colorado, Tax Sale Certificate No. 62
of the tax sales for the year 1925, for taxes for the year 1924, covering Lot 10, Aspen Park
Pitkin County, Colorado, which Tax Sale Certificate was purchased by Pitkin County, Colorado
and has not since said sale been sold, assigned or redemmed;
AND WHEREAS, the said Theodore Cooper has paid to the Treasurer of Pitkin County, Colorado
the full amount of all back taxes together with interest, assignment fees and current taxes,
and is entitled to an assignment of said Tax Sale Certificate;
AND WHEREAS, it has been made to appear to the Board of County Commissioners by evidence
presented by the Treasurer of Pitkin County, Colorado, that the said Tax Sale Certificate No
62, after thorough and diligent"search by said Treasurer, cannot be found or located by him
and that the same has been lost, destroyed or is being wrongfully witheld from the rightful
• owner thereof; and that this Board of County Commissioners should cause a certificate of suc
proof and findings to be made to be delivered to such rightful claimant and that a record of
this Certificate be made by the Clerk of this Board in the recorded proceedings hereof;
AND WHEREAS, the proof so submitted by said County Treasurer is sufficient and satisfactor•
to establish that said Tax Sale Certificate No. 62 has been lost, destroyed, or is being
wrongfully witheld from the rightful owner thereof and this Board desires to issue a cert-
ificate and order;

State of Colorado, that Tax Sale Certificate No.62 for the tax sales of the year 1925 for

troyed, "or is being wrongfully witheld from Pitkin County, Colorado, the rightful owner
thereof, and that this certificate and order shall be taken and held to be a substitute for
the Tax Sale Certificate aforesaid.

That is a gross mistatement of fact which was pointed to your newspaper when you made the

'spen Chamber of Commerce, and the one hundred and fifty members of the Pitkin County Water
"rotection Association are all on record as opposing the Frying Pan- Arkansas Project.
We oppose the project on the simple grounds that it is larceny under - written by the Federal
- overnment. While several hundred thousand federal dollars were spent to survey Eastern Slope
ater needs up t0 the year 2000, both the State and Federal Governments have not spent one
eat to study Western Slope future water needs. The only survey ever made of these needs,
•resent aid future, was submitted in 1950 by Mr. Silmon Smith, of Grand Junction, That survey
-howed that there is no excess water to be diverted to the Eastern Slope. The Department of
ustice now claims that all low water of the Colorado River is already appropriated and has
his matter in litigation at the moment.
Instead of publishing editorials based on erroneous assumptions why doesn't the Post lend
Its enormous prestige toward (1) obtaining a Congressional hearing here where the facts can
• e openly discussed and impartially judged by the men who will vote the money for the project,

The reports of the County Clerk, Clerk of the County Court, Clerk of the District Court and
service officer was examined, approved and signed.
The r eport of the Sheriff was examined, approved and signed.
The sale of lands as Posted March 3, 1952 a copy of which appears on pages 333 and 334 of
these commissioners proceedings was held at the front door of the Court house with Attorney
George J. Petre as auctioneer, At which sale the following were the successful bidders:

Pitkin County, Colorado, and whereas the 'Treasurer has deposited said sums to the General

AND WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners has been advised that said sums collected
for fees and fines by the Pitkin County Library should be deposited to the Pitkin County
Library Fund;

We Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, C olorado, urge you to vote agai-
1st authorization of the 'Frying Pan- Arkansas Transmountain Diversion Project when it is
)resented before Congress.
This project, as submitted by the Bureau of Reclamation, discriminates against every
'esident of Colorado's Western Slope. It was planned without any adequate survey of Western
;lope future water needs, and'its authorization would seriously impair the future growth of
the western half of our State.
This county is particularly apprehensive over what will happen to its recreational re-
.
3ources should the project be authorized. You are familiar, of course, with the Fish &
iildlive Service report on the crippling of the Granby area's recreational resources as a
'esult of the Big Thompson Project. Since the Bureau of Reclamation has consistently and
shamelessly flouted the intent of Congress, as expressed in Senate Document No. 80, we can
see nothing but ruin for this area if the project is authorized.
It is our belief that our representatives are elected on the promise that they will prot-
sct interests of the minority.
We believe that the Frying Pan - Arkansas Project is unfair and unjust to those who live
nest of the Divide.

I A request by the North Thompson Coal and Coke Corp. to assist in maintenance and surfacin;
a new road being built by the above corporation was considered and it was decided to assist
them in this work. It was also decided that the North Thompson Four Mile Range association
and the North Thompson Four Mile Mineral and Land Association would derive some benefits
from this new road not only as an improvement to their property but in a monetary way and
the County Clerk was instructed to write letters to the Secretary's of their boards asking
them to participate in the actual cost of this project.

THIS AGREEMENT, made this 1st day of June, 1952, between the STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION OF
COLORADO, a public corporation, for the use and benefit of the DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS of the
STATE OF COLORADO, hereinafter called the "Department ", and the COUNTY OF PITKIN, hereinafter)
called the "County ", WITNESSETH that WHEREAS, there is included in the annual budget fot
the year 1952, approved December 15, 1951, an appropriation of $8,000.00 for work on the
Independence Pass road, State Highway No. 82, in Pitkin County, and .
WHER AS Pitkin County has agreed to provide $4,000.00 for Maintenance work, and the Depart
men ;4,000.00 for betterments to make the total of the $8,000.00 in the budget,

NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and of the mutual covenants and agreements
herein contained and the faithful performance thereof, the parties hereto promise and agree
as follows:
1. The Department, with its own organization and equipment, will perform the betterment
operation on State Highway No. 82 between the City limits of Aspen and the Pitkin -Lake County
Line at the top of Independence Pass, during the 1952 working season, in the amount of
$4,000.00, at the expense of the Department.
2. The Department, with its organization and equipment will perform maintenance operations
on State Highway No. 82 between the City Limits of Aspen and the Pitkin -Lake County Line at
the top of Independence Pass, as soon as practical after this agreement is executed, and will
continue such maintenance operations until the first deep snow of the season 1952 -1953 closes
the Pass, at the total coat not to exceed $4,000.00, which cost will be at the expense of the
County.
3. The Department will bill PitkinCbunty monthly, as the maintenance work progresses, for
the cost of the work on the basis of actual expense covering labor, material, supplies and
rental of equipment, but excluding administration or overhead charges.
4. The County will make payments to the Department on receipt of the monthly billings for
the maintenance cost up to a total of $4,000.00
5. If payment is not made by the County within 30 days after presentation of bills the
State Treasurer is authorized and requested, upon being advised of this fact by the Depart-
ment, to pay said indebtedness and debit the same against Pitkin County's accumulated apport-
ment of the Motor Fuel Tax and Motor Vehicle License Fees.
6. This Agreement shall not bee deemed valid until it shall have been approved by the Con-
troller of the State of Colorado, or such assistant as he may designate.
7. This Agreement shall be binding upon and inure to the benefit of the successors and
Assigns of the parties hereto, respectively.
8. This Agreement is executed under authority of Section 6, S.B. No. 1, approved February
14, 1952, and with reference to the signatories on behalf of the County by virtue of a
resolution passed at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held on June 18, 1952,
a certified copy of which is attached hereto.

WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Pitkin and State of Colorado that certain individuals have placed advertising sign -
upon the right of way of Colorado State Highway No. 82 and the County Roads;
AND WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Board of County Commissioners that if this practice
were to be sanctioned it would only be equitable that all advertisers be allowed to place
signs upon the right of way of Colorado State Highway No. 82 and on the County roads, which
Y + practice would constitute a driving hazard and detract from the scenic beauty of Pitkin
County, Colorado;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pirk in,j
State of Colorado, that all owners of signs now placed upon the right of way of Colorado Stale
Highway No. 82 and County roads be notified that the same must be removed on or before

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of -Pitkin County, Colorado

of way for this purpose shall be promptly abated.

WHEREAS, by law it is required that all liquor outlets within the County of Pitkin, State
of Colorado and not within the corporate limits of any municipality within the County, obtai
liquor licenses from the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin and State of
Colorado before liquor is sold upon the premises and to obtain a reissuance of the license
yearly thereafter during the time that liquor is sold upon the premises;
AND WHEREAS, certain liquor outlets within the County have applied for reissuance of the
license without paying the statutory ann ual license fee for this license; and whereas, the
Board of County Commissioners cannot lawfully reissue any license before the statutory fee
has been paid;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County C ommissioners of the County of Pitkin
and State of Colorado that hereafter no new liquor license or reissuance of any existing
liquor license will be considered by this Board until the statutory fee for said license has
been paid in advance. In the event that the new license is denied or the reissuance is ref-
used the money so paid shall be refunded.

Gentlemen:
The assessed valuation of the State for the year 1952, as fixed by the Colorado
Tax Commission and accepted by the State Board of Equalization, is 12,471,754,524.00, and
after consideration of levies made necessary by legislative action, the levy for the year
1952 for all State purposes has been fixed at two and seventy -one hundredths mi115 (2.71)
to be distributed to the various State funds as shown on Schedule "A" attached hereto and
made a part hereof.
The valuation of your County for the year 1952, as certified by the Colorado Tax Commission,
is as shown on the attached Schedule "B' and your County has been charged with State taxes
on that valuation.
The above information is furnished as required by Section 21, Chapter 158, Session Laws of
1943. (Amended Section 299, Chapter 142, 1935 C.S.A.)
Your attention is directed to the following special taxes to be levied:
Chapter 45, Session Laws of 1952, provides for a tax levy of one -half (1/2) mill on each
dollar of assessed valuation on all dozens of poultry and all livestock, with the exception
of sheep and goats, to be credited to the Predatory Animal Fund and forwarded to the State
Treasurer.
Chapter 46, Session Laws of Colorado, 1952, provides for a tax levy of Ten (10) mills on
each dollar of assessed valuation on all sheep and goats, except those in feed lots, to be
credited to the Predatory Animal Fund and forwarded to the State Treasurer.
Chapter 110, Section 325, C.S.A. 1935, provides that there shall be levied and collected a
tax equal to one -tenth of one per cent upon assessed valuation of all producing and non -
producing metalliferous mining property, including lode claims, placer and mill sites, to-
gether with all improvements thereon, forwarded to the State Treasurer and to be credited to
the Metal Mining Fund.
Attention is directed to Chapter 56, Session Laws of 1952, limiting revenue collected to
that of last year, plus 5 %.
You will note that no levy has been made for State General Fund. The 1910 Funding Bonds

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 2 of Chapter 128, Session Laws of 1947,
being the additional two cent gasoline tax, you are hereby notified "that from and after
January 1, 1948, no moneys shall be so distributed to any county which has not the preceding
ear levied an ad valorem property tax for road purposes of at least one mill." This applies
to the forty -four per cent of this two cent tax to be used for county roads.
Below you will find an affidavit form which we kindly ask that you have executed and returned
to this office before January 1, 1953. Failure on your part to do so will necissitate our
turning this money over to the State Highway Fund to be expended as provided by this law.

Dear Sirs:
Following the instruction of the Colorado Tax Commission the Board of Directors
of The Colorado River Water Conservation District has adopted a levy for its purposes of
Fourteen - hundredths (.14) mills on the valuation of all property assessed in the
eight counties of the district.
This is a reduction in levy from .20 mills which was made on the 1951 valuation, inasmuch
as the new valuation in all the counties was materially raised by the 1952 revaluation. This
flat levy, the same in all counties, will result in some changes in the amount of taxes as
all the counties did not raise their valuations by equal percentages, but these changes are
for the most part minor and with the assessment next year they will disappear.
For your information this District is a party to four lawsuits two of which, during this
last year, it won in the District Courts, although both these cases will be appealed to the
Supreme Court. The decision in the Blue River adjudication has also been appealed by Denver
and Colorado Springs, which are not satisfied with the priority dates awarded them, although
these dates seem proper to the District.
The District will continue, as in the past, to do for the good of Western Colorado every-

Effective July 1, 1952 the Public Utilities Commission of Colorado set a definite rate of
$35.00 per year per hydrant.
Commencing January 1, 1953 the Mountain Utilities Corp. will present,a bill to the county
at the above mentioned rate for three (3) hydrants, located at: Pitkin County Hospital, Main
& Spring Street and Aspen and Durant Street.
If the Commissioners wish any or all of the hydrants mentioned disconnected before the
time of billing please inform us.

THAT WHEREAS, the party of the second part made a call for bids for the furnishing of coal
for Pitkin County, Colorado, in eluding the County Court House, County Hospital, County sheds
and any other County Buildings for which coal is needed;
AND WHEREAS, the party of the first part was the lowest responsible bidder and his bid was
accepted by the party of the second part, subject however, to this written contract;
x+1 NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY AGREED between the parties hereto as follows:
1. That the party of the first part shall furnish all stoker coal used by Pitkin County,
Colorado for the winter of 1952 and 1953 and that said coal shall be of acceptable quality
and size, and oil - treated.
2. That the party of the first part shall deliver all coal furnished by him to the various
buildings in Pitkin County for which this coal is purchased; and shall unload said coal and
place it in the designated coal bin.
3. It is understood between the parties hereto that Pitkin County does not have storage
facilities sufficient to handle all the coal that will be needed by them for the winter of
1952 and 1953; and that it will be necessary for the party of the first part to deliver coal
from time to time as the same is needed,
4. That payment for said coal shall be made on the first Monday of the month following de-
livery of the coal, at a price of $9.00 per ton, which payment will be made, however, only
upon the signed voucher of the party of the first part properly presented to the party of
the Second Part.

I •un -Deck on top of Ajax Mountain was approved and signed.
The matter of caution Signs on the various School Bus Routes was discussed and it was decides
hat the county should purchase and post all of the entrances to Roads where the School Bus
Routes were with the proper type of sign as a warning to parties traveling that Road of
the operation of a School Bus thereon.
The County Clerk was instructed to order 16 signs for this purpose from the American
Refining Co. of Denver, Colorado with the following ledgend: Caution School Bus Route.
The following Resolution was unanimously passed and adopted at the meeting of the Board
fi eld on Dec. 3, 1952:
RESOLUTION AND ORDER
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin and State of Colorado
by appropriate resolution have appropriated monies for the various funds for Pitkin County,
Colorado, for the year beginning January 1, 1952, and ending December 31, 1952;
AND WHEREAS, there have arisen certain contingencies that could not be reasonably forseen
at the time of the adoption of the said budget which have necessarily increased the antic -
ipated expenditures from the Pitkin County Public Hospital Fund and the County General Fund;
AND WHEREAS, additional funds should be appropriated for said Pitkin County Public Hospital
,Fund to meet the expenses which were necessary to be incurred in the construction of a new
septic tank for said hospital; and whereas, additional funds funds should be appropriated fof
the County General Fund to meet the expenses which are now necessary to be incurred by this
,Board due to the extraordinarily severe winter of 1951 and 1952 and to meet other emergencies
that have arisen that could not have been reasonably forseen at the time of the adoption of
said budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin,
'State of Colorado, that an emergency exists and that there be, and that there hereby is
transferred from the Contingent Fund to the Pitkin County Public Hospital Fund, the sum of
x $126.50 to be used for the installation of a new septic tank for the Pitkin County Public
Hospital.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an emergency exists and that there be and hereby is transferred
from the Contingent Fund to the County General Fund the sum of $8,000.00 to meet the added
expenses incurred due to the extraordinarily severe winter of 1951 and 1952.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the emergencies that have arisen for which these appropriations
are hereby made could not be reasonably forseen at the time of the budget was adopted.
IT IS THEREFORE ACCORDINGLY 9DERED that a copy of this Resolution and Order be published
in full one time in The Aspen /Times, at Aspen, C olorado, and that a certified copy of this
Resolution be filed with the State Tax Commission of the State of Colorado and that a cert-
ified copy of this Resolution be delivered to the County Treasurer of Pitkin County, Colorado,
and be his authority to transfer the money as above provided.
'ND IT IS FURTHER HEREBY ORDERED that this Resolution and Order be entered in the recorded

The Board of County Commissioners of the County of Pitkin, State of Colorado met at 10:00
A. M. January 13, 1953 with the following members present: C. 0. Quam, Chairman; T. J. Sardy
and Orest A. Gerbaz, commissioners; Wm C. Stapleton, Clerk.
As no old business appeared which should be taken care of by this Board the 1952 Board
of County Commissioners of Fitkin County, Colorado adjourned Sine Die.
Nominations were opened for temporary Chairman and upon motion duly seconded and carried
C. 0. Quam was elected. ;
Nominations were then opened for Chairman to serve this board for the ensuing year.
T. J. Sardy was nominated chairman and as no further nominations were made T. J. Sardy was
elected by acclamation.
Orest A. Gerbaz was nominated for Vice - Chairman to serve this board for the ensuing year
and as no further nominations were made he was elected by Acclamation.
The following deputies of the County Officials were approved by the Board:
Patricia3 Maddalone, Deputy County Treasurer; Valeska Broughton, Deputy County Clerk;
M. M. Neihardt, Temporary Deputy County Clerk;. Rita Loushin, Deputy County Assessor; Frank
Loushin, Deputy County Coroner.
The salaries of the Various Deputies except Deputy Coroner was set at $200.00 per month.
The following Road Overseers were appointed: John Snyder, Aspen District: Claude Crowley,
Frying Pan District; Roy Whitbeck, Crystal River District, to serve in their various dist-
ricts or during the pleasure of the Board.
The extention of the above named Road Overseer's Bonds in the amount of $1,000.00 each
given by them and Western Surety Co. was approved.
Mr. Ralph L. McKee was appointed County Auditor and Budget Assistant at a salary of
$500.00 per year
Pitkin County Bank was named as County Depository during the pleasure of the Board.
The following Official Bonds were approved as to form and sufficiency:
The Bond of Lorain R. Herwick as Sheriff in the amount of $5,000 with Western Surety as Surety.
The Bond of Mn C. Stapleton as County Clerk & Recorder in the amount of $5,000.00 with Western
Surety as Surety.
The Bond of E. E. Jackson as County Assessor in the amount of $6,000.00 with Western Surety
as Surety.
The Bond of E. E. Jackson as County Assessor (State Bond) in the amount of $1,000.00 with
Western Surety as Surety.
The Bond of G. E. Buchanan as County Surveyor in the Amount of '$1,000.00 with Western Surety
as Surety.
The 3ond of Bernard P. Popish as County C oroner in the amount of ~$1,000.00 with Western
Surety as Surety.
The Bond of Frank Loushin as Deputy County Coroner in the amount of 11,000.00 with Western
Surety as Surety.
The Bond of Louise M. Berg as Clerk of the District Court in the amount of $1,000.00 with -
Western Surety as Surety.
