This study will include the inventory and recording time for two sites (top of the mountain, and if needed, resources accessed from the valley floor), occurring over two days with one azchaeologist, plus reporting time. The inventory corridor will be approximately 100 feet, including the landing zones at the top and bottom of the alignment. The three known sites are: (1) an historic mine near the bottom of the proposed power tine run; (2) the historic Crystal River and San Juan Railroad conidor just west of the bottom of the project area; and (3) the historic Avalanche Stage Station, west of the lower terminus of the proposed line. The first two are considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, while the third site is not considered eligible. Contractor will research and confirm that these resources, with the exception of the mine site, are avoided by the current project azea. Contractor will conduct an online files search with the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation in Denver and will request all GIS data and site forms for the vicinity. Project area historical files from White River National Forest Supervisors Office in Glenwood Springs, and any Pitkin County historical tiles available, will be explored and referenced. The investigations and final report of results, including site forms for newly-recorded sites or isolated finds and previously-recorded updates for sites in the project area, will be conducted and _ reported according to OAHP and USFS standards and guidelines. Contractor will commence scheduling field work within two weeks of notice to proceed and will provide final reports within two weeks of close of field work, contingent upon the opportunity.to access to the top of the mountain. Three copies of the report and site forms will be distributed to Andrea Brogan, the White River . National Forest Heritage Resource Manager, who will forward copies to the Aspen/Sopris Ranger District and the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office. One copy will be provided to Pitkin County.
