HomeMy WebLinkAboutBocc Packet 04242013 Wildfire Outreach ProclamationA PROCLAMATION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO RECOGNIZING WILDFIRE SEASON IN PITKIN COUNTY AND ACROSS THE STATE WHEREAS, Pitkin County, the Roaring Fork Valley and the entire state remain in a severe drought despite recent moisture and a successful ski season; and WHEREAS, local fire districts are bracing themselves for a wildfire season that could match or surpass last year's extremely dry spring, summer and fall; and WHEREAS, the public is urged to mitigate fire danger around their homes, and be prepared should a wildfire threaten their neighborhood; WHEREAS, everyone in Pitkin County is urged to sign up today for Pitkin Alert at Pitkinalert.org to receive "real time" alerts and evacuation notices; and WHREAS, Pitkin County embraces a statewide effort in which the Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, has proclaimed May 4th 2013 as "Colorado Wildfire Preparedness Day of Service; and WHEREAS, it is hoped that every citizen on Saturday, May 4th will commit a couple of hours or an entire day to providing services that help to improve the defensibility and resiliency of our community to better protect it from wildfire devastation, the likes of which we all witnessed in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs last summer. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Board of County Commissioners supports local and statewide wildfire awareness and mitigation efforts that result in our communities becoming better prepared.
