APPOINTING TOM DUNLOP AS THE ENVIRONMENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH

WHEREAS, Pitkin County is known nationally as a progressive county that
supports environmental and public health causes; and,
WHEREAS, There is a need for rural county representation on national
environmental public health policy and funding committees; and,
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Dunlop has successfully represented Pitkin County
on many federal committees during his tenure as Environmental Public Health
Advocate from May, 2002 to the present; and,
WHEREAS, Pitkin County wishes to resume a qualified presence on the
national level in order to stay active in federal environmental public health
policy initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Dunlop wishes to represent small rural health needs
and issues on national environmental public health policy committees as a
volunteer but cannot do so without a formal relationship to a local
government; and,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Pitkin County Board of County
Commissioners:
I. Thomas S. Dunlop is appointed as the Pitkin County Environmental
Public Health Advocate for a term of one year.
2. Thomas S. Dunlop will report his activities to and look for direction from
the Pitkin County Environmental Health Manager in order to align
organizational foci and workloads.
3. Thomas S. Dunlop will attend quarterly meetings with Pitkin County
Environmental Health staff in order to share with and coach staff about
issues of national policy and program development, as well as to help
him gather feedback about the challenges of meeting national
environmental public health policy and program standards in a rural
community.
4. Thomas S. Dunlop will participate i n national environmental public
health policy committees to represent the issues and needs of small
rural counties. �/
