REDSTONE CASTLE TRAIL 10K

RECITALS
1. Pursuant to Subsection 4- 30 -50(i) of the 2006 Pitkin County Land Use Code, the Community
Development Director of Pitkin County, Colorado ( "Director ") may approve a Temporary
Commercial Use /Special Event Permit for commercial activities or events.
2. Sue McEvoy and Cathy Montgomery (hereafter, the "Applicants ") have applied to the Director
for approval of a Special Event Permit for a 10k Run/Walk that begins at the Redstone Inn and
travels to Redstone Blvd, to Firehouse Road, to the Bighorn Trail, onto Sawmill Hill Trail, to the
Redstone Castle Trail, and ending back at the Redstone Inn parking lot. The event is proposed
from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 50 -75 participants are expected. There will be two aid stations
throughout the course.
3. The Applicants have provided a Certificate of Insurance demonstrating adequate General
Liability coverage acceptable to the standards of the Risk Manager (and naming Pitkin County as
an Additional Insured).
4. This application was referred to the Sheriffs Office, the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection
District/Ambulance District, and the Communications Department. Comments were received
from all in support of the application. Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District will provide
an ambulance and a staff person for the race. The Open Space and Trails Department has
permitted the race.
5. The Director finds that, to the extent applicable, the application complies with the standards in
Subsection 4- 30 -50(i) of the Land Use Code.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Community Development Director of Pitkin County
does hereby grant approval for the Redstone Castle Trail l0k Special Event Permit subject to the following
conditions:
1. The Applicants shall adhere to all material representations made in, or in connection with, the
application.
2. No parking associated with the event shall occur on County Roads. Emergency access shall
remain open at all times.
3. Failure to comply with the conditions of approval may result in revocation of this permit.

This is a trail running event so we do not expect to have any handicapped
participants. As mentioned in the Sanitation section, we do have a handicap
accessible restroom at Redstone Park.

Dear Bob McCormick.
The Redstone Community Association is holding a Trail Running Race on Saturday,
October 5, 2013. The race route includes sections of Redstone Boulevard, Firehouse
Road. and the section of road between. the Redstone Castle and. Redstone Inn.
There will not be any road closures during the race but residents are asked to use
caution while driving on the route. The start time is 9 a.m. and we expect the
runners to complete the course in less than one hour.
All private land- owners whose property the race covers are listed on the liability
insurance RCA has purchased.
We thank -you for your support of the Redstone Community Association.
