CALL TO ORDER: Chairman George Newman called the Board of County
Commissioners Special Meeting to order at 1:58 PM
COUNTY COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: George Newman, Rob Ittner, Rachel
Richards, Michael Owsley, and Steve Child
COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: None
Action: Commissioner Owsley moved to convene the Special Meeting as the Board of
Social Services. Commissioner Child seconded the motion. Motion passed 5 to 0 with
Commissioners Newman, Ittner, Richards, Owsley and Child voting aye.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES FIRST QUARTERLY UPDATE WITH THE BOARD
OF SOCIAL SERVICES (Januarv, Februarv and March Budqet Reports)
STAFF: Nan Sundeen, Director of Health and Human Services; Mitzi Ledingham,
Assistant Director of Health and Human Services; Kim Dubois, Adult Family Services
Manager for Pitkin County; Kathleen Lyons, Economic Services Director from Eagle
County; Marty Ames, Director of Senior Services; and Connie Garofalo, Fund Specialist
with the Pitkin County Finance Department.
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS 1 SPECIAL MEETING AUCUST 27,2013
ACTION: Commissioner Richards moved to approve the quarterly payrolls and
expenditures as presented. Commissioner Child seconded the motion. Motion passed
5 to 0 with Commissioners Newman, Ittner, Richards, Owsley and Child voting aye.
DIRECTION:
• Nan Sundeen was given direction to draft a letter from the BOCC to our
Congressional delegates asking them to protect the SNAP Program (Food
Assistance/Supplemental Nutrition program)
• Commissioner Richards would like a Grassroots N show produced to show how
to get involved with CONNECT COLORADO and try to get agenda time with
ACRA so that those employers can be aware. Also, she would like to see an
email flyer go out with regard to CONNECT COLORADO. That way, she added,
groups such as the Snowmass Resort Association and ACRA can email it out to
all of their members. The connection with employer and community will be huge,
she stated. She said that it will also help lower income employees can get on the
Medicaid program. She also suggested posters at Food Banks, health care
offices or wherever a different crowd could be reached.
The meeting continued per the Agenda Item Summary.
ADJOURNMENT:
Commissioner Richards moved to adjourn the Special Meeting as the Board of Social
Services. Commissioner Child seconded the motion. Motion passed 5 to 0 with
Commissioners Newman, Ittner, Richards, Owsley and Child voting aye.
