HomeMy WebLinkAboutBocc Packet 01222014 InternshipA RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OFPITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO APPROVING A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF COLORADO, DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL AFFAIRS TO FUND THE PITKIN COUNTY BEST AND BRIGHTEST INTERN USING FUNDS FROM THE ENERGY AND MINERAL IMPACT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Resolution No. , 2014 RECITALS 1. Intergovernmental agreements to provide functions or services, including sharing the costs of such functions or services, or incurring debt, by political subdivisions of the State of Colorado, are specifically authorized by C.R.S. § 29-1-203, relevant portions of Title 24, Article 33.5, and other sections of the Colorado Revised Statutes. 2. Pursuant to Section 2.8. of the Pitkin County Home Rule Charter the Board of County Commissioners is authorized to approve by resolution, intergovernmental agreements with other governmental agencies. 3. Pitkin County wishes enter into a contract with the Department of Local Affairs to employ an administrative intern for approximately 24 months under the Best and Brightest Program administered by the Department of Local Affairs. The.Best and Brightest Program provides a cost-effective way to help support the increasing administrative needs of small, rural jurisdictions in Colorado. Additionally, the program provides students (as administrative interns) the opportunity to gain valuable working experience while completing their graduate degree. 4. Grant funds will pay 50% of salary and benefit costs of the Intern, to a maximum of $17,500 per year. Pitkin County will contribute at least $17,500 annually for each of two years. The Intern position was approved by the Board of County Commissioners upon adoption of the 2014 Budget. A copy of the Grant Agreement is on file in the County Clerk's Office NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado, that the Chair be authorized to sign the grant agreement with the State of Colorado Department of Local Affairs to provide for the Pitkin County Best and Brightest Intern.
