A PROCLAMATION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
PITKIN, COUNTY COLORADO RECOGNIZING
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
WHEREAS, Children are key to the county's future success, prosperity, and quality of life and,
while children are our most valuable resource, they are also our most vulnerable; and,
WHEREAS, Children have the right to be safe and to be provided an opportunity to thrive, learn
and grow; and parents have the right and responsibility to raise children in a safe manner; and,
WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect can be reduced and prevented by supporting and
strengthening healthy, trusting family bonds; and,
WHEREAS, Pitkin County recognizes that parents and families have strengths that are
appreciated and built upon to encourage healthy change and that family involvement is the key to success
in preventing child abuse; and,
WHEREAS, Pitkin County plays a vital role in child and family safety by providing public

services through Health and Human Services Department and Pitkin County Sheri s Department who
work closely together to protect children and strengthen families; and, !
WHEREAS, Pitkin County has a value that strong community partnerships and services are �k

critical to keeping children, adults and families safe and successful.
WHEREAS, Pitkin County recognizes that effectively intervening in the lives of children and
families threatened by abuse or neglect is a shared community responsibility and highly values the strong
partnerships that exist in our community between youth and family serving non profits, schools, law
enforcement, public health and human services, faith community and extended family; and
WHEREAS, Pitkin County is fortunate to be able to financially support youth and family
community services through the distribution ofPitkin County Healthy Community Grant funds; and,
WHEREAS, by providing a safe and nurturing environment for our children, free of violence,
abuse and neglect, we can ensure that Pitkin County's children will grow to their full potential as the next
generation of healthy citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners that April is
Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in Pitkin County.
