WORK SESSION ITEM:
SNOWMASS/CAPITAL CAUCUS MEETING—BUDGET PRESENTATION
Mick Ireland made a presentation to the Caucus detailing the financial status of the County. He covered the
nature of the economy in resort communities; revenues associated with the general fund; the fiscal shortfall for
the county; what has been done so far to adjust the budget; potential ballot questions in August and November
and what is at risk if a revenue increase is not approved. The meeting then opened up for discussion. Issues
raised by the public included the following
• Can the BOCC come back to address a larger crowd?
• Caucus members have appreciated support with their master plan
• Perhaps the BOCC can talk to Shield O, Gateway and Little Elk Creek at their annual meetings
• Addressing the information gap is the only way to win
• The low dollar amount is persuasive
• Old Snowmass is thinking about changing school districts
• Do residential taxes pay their own way?
Other items on the agenda included the Snowmass Capital Master Plan(how interested is the Caucus in
continuing if the County can not give them more money), Motorcycles on Light Hill (the Caucus unanimously
decided to ask the BOCC to ban motorcycles on Light Hill until the fire danger is over), Andlinger(the Caucus
wanted details on the final agreement with Andlinger), Water(concern was raised that Snowmass Village
should find storage for water on their own side, not on the Old Snowmass side), Base Village (concern was
raised over the minimum stream flow), and air traffic noise (loud planes flying over Capital Creek at 6am).
STAFF DIRECTION: Michael Kinsley will write a letter to the BOCC requesting the closure of Light
Hill to motorized vehicles until the fire danger has passed. Staff was asked to bring it to the attention of
the BOCC so that they can take swift action.
Adjourned at: The BOCC left the meeting at 8:35p.m.
