The minutes from the last meeting were approved and a Treasurers Report was reviewed. Patti Clapper requested an agenda change so that their presentation could be first. The Caucus approved her request. Mick Ireland made a presentation to the Caucus detailing the financial status of the County. He reviewed the nature of the financial problem, what has been done so far, and what might be at risk if a new revenue source is not approved by the voters. The meeting then opened up for discussion. Issues raised by the public included the following • Should Redstone annex to Garfield County? • Our tax rate is so low, why not go higher • Can we stop residential development if it is not paying it's own way • The market is down and an increase in taxes will hurt. Why not cut county services? • Three commissioners instead of five except that Redstone would lose representation • $31 is only the price of dinner for two, not a significant impact • Look at how the county regulates • Can we make voluntary contributions to the general fund? • Should foundations take over funding non-profits? • Paying commercial and residential taxes in Redstone will be a burden for some. • Is there another way besides a commercial tax...seems unfair?
