I appreciate the information you sent, and will study it carefully. We will probably not know the exact maximum number of students we will have to build our septic system for until after our next meeting with the Board of County Commissioners on July 3rd. Hopefully, we will then have a resolved approval for a maximum of 50 students at which time I will contact you with our application and you can calculate exact design specifications for our system. In answer to your question concerning food preparation for our students; we have no plans for cooking hot meals for lunches. Students will be required to bring lunches from home. We do have refrigeration equipment sufficient to keep the lunches cool, and may offer carton milk for those children who desire it. We are prepared and able to expand the existing system by enlarging the leach field and if necessary, by adding an additional septic tank. The work should take about three days to complete and could easily be done on relative short notice. If you wish to proceed with this project, please notify me and we will place you on the schedule. McClellan RWM/nm ASPEN&P'TK'N • ENVIrtNMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT June 25, 1990 Mr. Bruce Porter Alpine Christian Fellowship 0167 Holland Hills Road Basalt, CO 81621 Dear Mr. Porter: Please find the enclosed packet of information which includes: an application for a septic system permit, information on how to apply for the permit, information on the operation and maintenance of septic systems and a copy of the permit for the existing septic system. As I told you when we spoke on the telephone last Friday, there are several options for the expansion of your septic system. There should be plenty of room on the church's property to add on to the system. The only limiting factors would be property lines, and the location of the Holland Hills subdivision water line. Once you have decided what the maximum projected enrollment will be for the school, I can run through some calculations and will then be able to discuss the possible design alternatives with you. I do not feel that it will be necessary to repeat the soil percolation test for the expansion of the septic system. A percolation test was done in 1977 when the existing system was installed, and the percolation rate was 15 minutes per inch. The soil on the property is a sandy clay loam. It should be possible for us to design a standard addition to the septic system (rather than an engineered system) because of the soil type and the soil percolation rate. Since we do not have to do a perc test, the fee for your septic permit will be $150.00. This fee is due when you submit your application for your septic system permit. One thing we did not discuss when we spoke on the telephone was whether or not you intend to cook food for the students. If you prepare meals for the students, the church kitchen would have to be brought in to compliance with the Rules and Reaulatinnc State of Colorado. Our department is responsible for the enforcement of these regulations, via semi-annual or annual inspections of the facility. If you do intend to prepare food, please let me know so that we can discuss any changes which may need to be made to the kitchen, and so that I can forward you a copy of the regulations.
