Septic permit approved per compliance with the engineer design and specifications dated October 27, 2004. Any
changes must be approved by this department and the design engineer 21i2l to them being made. Minimum
horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the Pitkin County
ISDS regulations.
Design is for one 2000 gallon, two compartment concrete septic tank with a Biotube pump vault in the second
compartment. There are five trenches of Infiltrator Quick4 t chambers, each trench 12 chambers long for a total of
60 chambers.
This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation.
The engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an as -built letter to this department. This
department must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice.
'Revegetation over the area of the field is very important for the functioning of the system. Pitkin County has guidelines that must be
followed to assure the plants that are introduced are appropriate for the conditions of the area. The use of native plants is strongly

Plans and specifications of the proposed individual sewage disposal system have been reviewed and are considered
satisfactory. Permission is hereby granted to the owner or the agent to perform the work indicated in accordance with the Pitkin
County ISDS Regulation in effect at the time of issue. This permit becomes invalid 6 months from the date that the permit was
issued unless system construction has commenced or an extension has been approved in writing by the Department.
As -built drawings must be included with this permit before the final approval will be issued.

The fee for a ISDS application is $600 for a permit that takes 6 hours or less for the department to approve. If approval takes
longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the
time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit; second,
before final approval of the ISDS permit.
Application for an individual sewage disposal system is hereby submitted. I hereby certify that the above information is true and
accurate and that I have provided true and accurate information on locations of all existing and proposed wells, contour
intervals, buildings, property lines, ditches, slopes, waterlines, springs, suction or irrigation lines, drinking water cisterns, drain
tiles, irrigation ditches, lakes, water courses, streams, floodplains, dry gulches, and existing septic systems. I hereby certify
that any such features not shown on attached site map are not present. Issuance of the permit does not imply the approval of
any other permit required for construction pursuant to Pitkin County codes. No construction may be undertaken until all
approvals and permits have been obtained.
The Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, Pitkin County and employees of these agencies will be held harmless
should the individual sewage disposal system fail or malfunction. The permit to construct is issued on information submitted by

As requested, we observed the installation of the onsite wastewater system for the subject site on Novem-
ber 19, 2004. The system was designed under our Job No. 16085W, last revised October 27, 2004.
The system includes the installation of a 2000 -gallon, two-compartment, concrete septic tank with a pump
in a Biotube® pump vault and a gravelless chamber -trench drain field. The drain field was installed in four
trenches, each with one row of 15 Infiltrator® Quick4TM chambers for a total of 60 chambers and 588 i12
of infiltrative area. A concrete distribution box was installed to distribute effluent to the drain field. An as -
built drawing is included as Figure 1.
The components of the OW S design were installed in conformance with our plans and specifications. Final
electrical connections must be made by a licensed electrician. The construction foreman may activate the
pumping system at his discretion.

As requested, we have prepared a revised onsite wastewater system (OWS) design for the proposed
residence The revisions arc based on an increase in the living area square footage of the caretaker unit
above the bam Brom our latest revised design, dated September 15, 2004, under Job No. 16085W. The
subsurface investigation was performed on June 24, 2004.
SITE CONDITIONS
The property is in a rural residential area of Pitkin County, where OWS are required. The proposed drain
field area slopes approximately 5% to the southwest The drain field area has a full cover of native grasses
and weeds. Water is supplied to the site by an existing well located greater than 100 fleet to the southwest of
the proposed drain field area
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
A horse bam with four horse stalls, a powder room to serve up to six employees, and a one -bedroom
apartment with a 5ving area of 800 ftz, is proposed at the location presented on Figures J and 2. A structure
with a living area greater than 700 ft1 must be sized for a minimum of two bedrooms, The OWS was sized
based on 680 gallons per day (GPD) using Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (PCEM)
loading of 50 GPD per horse stall, 30 GPD per employee for a toilet and sink in the powder room, and 75
GPD per person per bedroom. The sewage loading with a peaking factor of 1.75 is 1 190 GPD. This loading
includes washing machines and garbage grinders
if additional fixtures in unfinished areas are possible, it is suggested that the OWS be constructed to handle
the additional loading. The installation of a properly engineered OWS to serve future build -out can be cost
effective

SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
A subsurface investigation was performed by digging four percolation holes, 29 to 40 inches deep and one
test pit at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials in the test pit consisted of I foot of
clayey, sandy topsoil, underlain by slightly clayey, silty sand to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet.
Ground water was not encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 20 to 27 minutes per inch
(MPU. The average percolation rate is 24 MPI. Percolation data is included as Table 1.
RECOWi4ENDAIIONS
The installation must. include a septic tank, an effluent pump, and a graveness chamber -trench drain field at
the locations presented on Figure 2 The OWS design is based on an average sewage load of 680 GPD and
a percolation rate of 24 MPI. The installation must include one 2000 -gallon, two-compartment, concrete
septic tank with a pump in a Biotube® pump vault in the second compartment and live Infittrator"m
QuiWO chamber -trenches. Each trench must have one row of 12 chambers for a total of 60 chambers and
588 ftZ of infiltrative area. A now splitter basin, or equivalent, is required to distribute effluent to the field.
Pump specifications are included as Figure S.
Based on soil conditions and evaluation of risk of contamination of surface water and ground water, it is not
necessary to add 8 feet additional distance for each 100 gallons of wastewater per day of design now over
1000 gallons per day as specified in the table to prevent contamination. The 100 -foot separation between
the proposed absorption arca and the well is appropriate to prevent contamination.
Vehicle movement over the drain field area during construction should be kept at a minimum to
minimize compaction of the receiving soils. The bottom of the trenches should be scarified with a pick,
shovel, or backhoe bucket teeth prior to the addition of chambers.
The surface of the field should be seeded after installation of the fields. A native seed mix should be sown at
the drain field to revegetate the surface. These mixes do not require irrigation and develop a growth 10 to
15 inches high. No automatic sprinkler system should be installed over the trenches.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The owner must realize an OWS is different from public sewer service. The owner must be aware of
and assume responsibility for maintenance of the system. In the absence of a monitoring program, the
septic tank should be pumped every two years. Effluent filter and screened vaults, as applicable, are to
be cleaned during pumping There are daily considerations such as not putting plastic or other nonbio-
degradable materials into the septic system. Garbage disposal use should be minimized.
The backwash of a water softener may be harmful to the OWS. A separate drywell should be constructed
for the backwash waste, if a softener is installed. Chemically treated water from a swimming pool or spas
should not be introduced to the OWS.
LIMITATIONS
A contractor experienced in OWS installation should be hired for the construction. Our investigation,
layout, design and recommendations are based on data submitted. If subsurface conditions different from
those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the change on the proposed

ISSUANCE OF THIS PERMIT DOES NOT CONFER A WATER RIGHT
CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL
1) This well shall be used in such a way as to cause no material injury to existing water rights. The issuance of this permit
does not assure the applicant that no injury will occur to another vested water right or preclude another owner of a vested
water right from seeking relief in a civil court action.
2) The construction of this well shall be in compliance with the Water Well Construction Rules 2 CCR 402-2, unless approval
of a variance has been granted by the State Board of Examiners of Water Well Construction and Pump Installation
Contractors in accordance with Rule 18.
3) Approved pursuant to CRS 37-92-602(3)(b)(II)(A) as the only well on a tract of land of 38.30 acres described as lot 11,
Aspen River Valley Ranch division of land, Pitkin County.
4) The use of ground water from this well is limited to fire protection, ordinary household purposes inside not more than
three (3) single family dwellings, the watering of poultry, domestic animals and livestock on a farm or ranch and the
irrigation of not more than one (1) acre of home gardens and lawns.
5) The maximum pumping rate of this well shall not exceed 15 GPM.
6) The return flow from the use of this well must be through an individual waste water disposal system of the
non -evaporative type where the water is returned to the same stream system in which the well is located.
7) This well shall be constructed not more than 200 feet from the location specified on this permit. Qj $1Cy'I"7
