Subject: Honea 25110 Hwy 82
Sewage surfacing occurred in 1974. Our file has a permit finaled in 1974. There is a finaled permit from 1978 to
use the existing tank and pump to a new location, up adjacent to Hwy 82, just down valley from the driveway.
In 1994 SGM was able to do a preliminary redesign of the absorption area due to Hwy 82 widening. No permit
was ever issued. It was sized for 4 BR's and located up -valley on the lot. Design included 4 ft of sand in trenches
that had liner on the sidewalls. Perc data only done Nov. 23, 1994 by Bob Nelson and indicated very fast
percolating soil, <3 mpi.. So there could be enough appropriate area in this portion of the lot? The site plan we
have for this design does not show contours, river, or Hwy82.
A note in our file from 1995 shows that Kathy Hones told us that a new ISDS was not necessary because CDOT
said they did not need to encroach on the field. (It is suspect, because they sure put a lot of paving in what
appears to be that area.)
'Another note in the file indicates the well is 'next to the house under the dining room area'

MEMORANDUM
TO: Ed Miller
CDOT
FROM: Betsey Kipp
Aspen/Pitkin Environmental Health Dept.
DATE: Oct. 04, 1994
RE: Relocation of Honea absorption bed
Please find enclosed the Sewage Regulations, permit information,
and a copy of the 1978 septic permit for the Honea property in
Basalt. A profile hole will have to be dug and a perc test run
in the proposed area of the absorption field. The 1978 perc test
is inadequate to determine the appropriate size for a field.
Once I have the results from the Registered Engineer, we will
be able to consider the options for the absorption field.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
