Dear Kurt —
C:
Per our recent conversation, I would like to have Pitkin County update their records to reflect the actual
size of my septic tank. Per the attachment from B&R Septic, the tank at 0284 Lighthill Road is 1,000
gallons.
In addition, please notify me if the records reflect an adequately sized leech field.
Thank you.

HI Jeff,
The attached pdf is your file and it looks as though the original system was installed in
1972 (permit 720144). It also looks as though the field was replaced in 1982 (permit 85048).
The system was sized to accommodate a 1 bedroom house.
Your tank is original and quite small, but should accommodate a 1 bedroom home (2 people)
adequately. If you were to find the tank was not in good condition or metal or wood, it
should be replaced. You will need a permit from this office to replace the tank.
We do not require a permit to repair a conveyance line. I would recommend installing a
cleanout within 5 feet of the house to address any clogging outside of the house if it were
to be an issue in the future. Check the Tees on the tank to be sure they are in place, both
on the inlet and outlet side of the tank. We also recommend the installation of an effluent
filter on the outlet tee. This will assure no solids are migrating to your field area. The
filter should be removed and hosed off into the 1st compartment of the tank if any solids are
accumulating on it - possibly once a year. This type of maintenance will depend on the use
of your system.
Here is a list of licensed systems contractors. However, since you are not obtaining a
permit to do this work, having a licensed contractor is not a requirement, only a
recommendation.

Mr. Tony Scheer

Re: Lot 3, Block 4, Filing 2, Gateway to Snowmass Mesa Subdivision,
known and numbered as 0284 Light Hill Road
Dear Mr. Scheer:
On November 6, 1985, this department conducted a site
inspection of the referenced property, owned by Bill Huffman, for
the purpose of evaluating the onsite wastewater disposal and
water supply systems serving the existing dwelling. This inspection
was requested by Rich Wagar on October 31, 1985. This letter
represents our best opinion of the suitability and current
compliance of both sewage disposal and water systems with local
and state public health codes and accepted sanitary practices.
A review of our office records indicates that the sewage
disposal system consists of a 750 gallon septic tank and 600
square feet of seepage bed absorption area constructed in 1973.
This department inspected and approved the construction of this
system before it was placed in operation. A copy of the individual
sewage disposal permit is enclosed. A visual check of the area
of the absorption bed indicated that the sewage system is apparently
malfunctioning at this time, as evidenced by sewage effluent
surfacing to the south of the bed location. This condition
violates Section 3-1 of the Pitkin County Regulations On individual
Sewage Disposal Systems and is considered to constitute a nuisance
and a public health hazard. Repairs should be initiated to
correct this problem as soon as possible. Initially, it is our
opinion that the appropriate corrective action is to replace the
absorption area. We remind you that a permit for such repairs is
required from this office before any work is started.
Water to this residence is supplied from a community sub-
division well. An inspection of this source revealed that it
was properly constructed and located a sufficient distance from
sources of contamination. A sample of the drinking water was
collected by the water system operator and analyzed at the
certified laboratory of the Snowmass Water and Sanitation District
for microbiological contaminant levels. A report of this test is

enclosed, and indicates that the number of coliform bacteria in
the 100 milliliter sample does not exceed counts established as
acceptable in the Colorado Department of Health Primary Drinking
Water Regulations. Also enclosed are the most recent chemical
tests and Colorado Department of Health Drinking Water Supply
Inspection Report for the water system. These indicate that the
water system continues to comply with standards and is an acceptable
source of drinking water.
