The tests were performed in accordance with regulations of the Jefferson County Health Department, Colorado, and in general accordance with Public Health Service "Manual of Septic -Tank Practice", Publication No. 526. A percolation rate was determined for material exposed in the test pit because there is a remarkable difference in permeability about 4.5 to 5.0 feet below the surface. The data show that the percolation rate at a depth of 2.5 to 3.0 feet is too slow to meet rainimum requirements for a standard leach field. However, if it is permissible to excavate the leach field to a depth of 4.5 to 5.0 feet, then very nearly optimum rates of percolation will be the condition at the site. The sequence of materials described in the log of the test pit extend beyond the boundary of lot 2 because they were observed to have similar properties and thicknesses in a test fit located in the lot west of this one. If the base of the leach field cannot be located at a depth of about 4.5 feet, or an alternate design recommended, then other methods of on site sewage treatment will need to be considered. o�C'c`L �Ern' e'A Dobrovolny, 1. :. L5 MEMORANDUM TO: Peter Dobrovolny FROM: Ernest Dobrovolny DETE: December 14, 1975 SUBJECT: Percolation tests on Lot 2, Block 1, Gateway to Snowmsds Mesa Subdivision, Pitkin County, Colorado Attached are: (1) a record of percolation tests conducted 12/?/75; (2) log of test pit; (3) sketch map of the lot showing location of the test holes, test pit, and suggested position of seepage beds. The percolation tests were conducted in general accordance with the Public Health Service "Manual of Septic -Tank Practice". At a depth of approximately 3 feet and lower the percolation rate is clearly within limits perscribed for a standard absorption system. For that reason I suggest that a minimum absorption system be considered as described in Section 5,04, C, Table IV, Pitkin County Individual Sewage Disposal Regulations, March, 1974, Seepage beds are recommended for this system. There should be three beds; each should be 4 feet wide, 75 feet long, and the depth should not be less than 3 feet below the natural ground surf&ce. Though the slope is fairly gentle, drop boxes will probably be required for the recommended serial distribution. The location of the seepage beds may be modified to conform more closely to the gently sloping ground surface. The log of the test pit is a copy from a report prepared for you 11/18/75 Water was not found in the test pit.
