This is a TANK ONLY septic permit approved. Any changes must be approved by this department and the design
engineer prior to them being made.
Minimum horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the Pitkin
County ISDS regulations.
This permit is to replace in the same location the failed tank with another 1500 gallon tank. This tank is first in
series; the second existing tank is a 1,000 gallon tank. An effluent filter will be required on the outlet of the last tank
to bring these components of the system into compliance with the existing ISDS regulations.
This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation.
This department must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice.

The fee for a ISDS application is $600 for a permit that takes 6 hours or less for the department to approve. If approval takes
longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the
time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit: second,
before final approval of the ISDS permit.
Application for an individual sewage disposal system is hereby submitted. I hereby certify that the above information is true and
accurate and that I have provided true and accurate information on locations of all existing and proposed wells, contour
intervals, buildings, property lines, ditches, slopes, waterlines, springs, suction or irrigation lines, drinking water cisterns, drain
tiles, irrigation ditches, lakes, water courses, streams, floodplains, dry gulches, and existing septic systems. I hereby certify that
any such features not shown on attached site map are not present. Issuance of the permit does not imply the approval of any
other permit required for construction pursuant to Pitkin County codes. No construction may be undertaken until all approvals
and permits have been obtained.

This letter is to go over what we discussed in our phone conversation today.
I will put a "Final Inspection Approval" on ISDS Permit # 96017 for only the 5 bedroom
main house.
The setback distance between a well and the absorption field for a 5 bedroom house and an
attached 1 bedroom caretaker unit is 188 ft. The distance between your second well and the
absorption field is 166 ft. This distance meets the setback requirement between a well and
the absorption.field for a 5 bedroom house which is 160 ft.
If you build a caretaker unit in the detached bam, at this time, the sizing of the septic
system (the tank and the field) is based on there being two bedrooms. The set back distance
then between your wells and the absorption field would then be 202 ft.
The minimum distance between a well and the absorption field must be 100 feet. The
minimum distance between a well and an unlined irrigation ditch must be 50 feet. An
additional 8 feet distance is required for each 100 gallons per day of design flow over 1000
gallons per day. This "8 foot rule" can be less only if it can be demonstrated by a
Registered Professional Engineer, RPE, that this is not necessary to prevent contamination.
The engineer would have to give information on the geological conditions and would then
have to make the following statement: '
Based on the geological conditions and evaluation of risk of contamination of
the well, it is not necessary to add 8 feet additional distance for each 100 gallons
per day of design flow over 1,000 gallons per day as specified in the table to
prevent contamination.! believe the_ foot separation between the proposed
absorption field and the well is appropriate.

I am following up my message to you regarding CLDC permit 96017. Betsy
Kipp provided great service to us in the construction of our home and was
involved, as I recall, in our installation of the septic system from beginning to
end.
I am almost terrain it was Betsey who made the final inspection. I remember
very- well speaking with Betsy on numerous times as we built the system,
because every time we had a question we would call her up and ask her how
to...
All setbacks were adhered to and the system has been in use for two years now.
Attached please find a copy of the CO issued by Pitkin County on 1/2/98.
I am sure this is just an oversight, please update your files to show that this was
an inspected and certified project. Don't hesitate to call if you have nay
questions.

In reviewing our I505 files, it has become apparent that there are many permits that we have not
been able to final. It is very important that we be able to final all I5D5 permits once installation of
sewage disposal systems and required inspections have been completed. Without finaled ISDS
permits, we cannot sign the Certificate of Occupancy for the home or building corresponding to that
permit. There are also other complications that could arise from incomplete ISDS permits.

To Whom It May Concern:
After meetingwith Betsy Kipp on the inspection of our septic system we were presented with tvo
options:
1. Eliminate the use by the as yet constructed guest house of that leach field, or
2. Get a report from an engineer stating that the 166' set back was adequate -
'I he way 1 would like to proceed is to go ahead and have Betsy sign off on the CO now. I
acknowledge that language will have to be included in the CO that would preclude the use of the
septic system by the guest house. I would like to reserve the right to have an engineer conte
sometime in the future to ascertain whether or not soils conditions would permit use of that system
by a future guest house.

and test holes were created at the bottom with a shovel. The holes were filled with water within

RISER SYSTEM

Parts: STAR -24R6 - STAR -24R12 - STAR 24L
STEP 4 Prepare the cover (STAR -24L) for installa-
tion by placing the provided neoprene gasket on the
underside groove of the cover radius. (Fig. 4) Place cover
on the riser, turn until hand tight.
STEP 5 Locate the 'Secure Here" hole on the cover
and install a tamsistant screw (STAR-SSCREW
provided) through tMWid and into the riser below. (Fig. 5) •
STEP 6 To secure with padlock drill a larger hole
to accommodate the lock. (Fig. 6)
STEP 7 If unable to remove cover by hand, insert
1" steel pipe into cover indentations and twist using
a shovel handle, pipe or piece of wood. (Fig. 7)

at 24 inches around the entire tank and 6 inches below the tank to allow
for proper backfilling. (Fig. 1)
• Install and level approximately 6 inches of pea stone (diameter 1/8-3/4 inch
rounded stone) or sand in bottom of the excavation. (Fig. 2)

• Install provided rubber gasket in inlet and outlet ports. (Fig. 3)
TIP: When using pre -plumbed tees, install gaskets and tees from the inside of the tank, out.
Push gaskets through holes with the flange against the inside wall. Coat the pipe with
a silicone spray before Inserting through gasket.
• Install the inlet and outlet tees, as required. (Fig. 4)
• Install the required FRALO threaded Septic Access Riser System (STAR')
provided separately. (Fig. 4) See reverse side for directions.
• Using the comer lifting holes, lower the tank into the excavation. Level the
tank, and verify the outlet is lower than the inlet. Install remaining inlet
and outlet plumbing. (Fig. 5)
• Perform required water tightness, plumbing and/or tank inspection
if applicable.

• Verify the height of the risers and modify if requireo. Mark the riser locations
on a drawing using permanent landmarks as reference.
• Backfill in an alternating method around the tank using native material free
of debris, sharp stones, and stones greater than 2 inches in diameter.
Soil MUST flow freely into corrugations between tank ribs, including midpoint
to belly of tank'. Compact in 6 inch lifts. Installer may place water in the tank
to stabilize during backfilling. (Fig. 6)
• Complete backfilling and grade the area.
• Complete and mail warranty card after installation.
• Advise your customer that they now own the world's finest, watertight and
non -corrosive septic tank.
