August 16, 2014 Bennett Bramson bbramson(a)aol.com Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Use Permit Inspection 1020 Snowmass Creek Road Pitkin County, Colorado Mr. Bramson, As requested, CBO Inc. performed an Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Use Permit inspection at 1020 Snowmass Creek Road, Snowmass, Colorado on July 28, August 11, and August 14, 2014. The permit and record drawing was provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID #2467-341-00-005). According to Pitkin County's records, the subject OWTS consists of one 2000 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank followed by an absorption area with 360 square feet of SB2 piping. The documentation provided by Pitkin County also notes a "gray water" system with a "metal tank" and an additional 360 square feet of SB2 piping. Individual Sewage Disposal Permit No. 88045 documents the original system(s) and Permit 05003 documents the 2005 septic tank replacement. Fixtures in the residence were run to see which entered the 2005 septic tank. The only fixtures that did not appear to be connected to the 2005 septic tank were the washing machine, laundry room utility sink, and downstairs bathtub. On August 11, 2014, B&R Septic personnel came to the property and attempted to locate the "metal" septic tank with a metal detector. These attempts were unsuccessful. On August 13, 2014, B&R Septic personnel again came to the property to try to run a camera through the laundry room plumbing in an attempt to locate the "gray water" septic tank. The washing machine trap prohibited entry into the sewer line, and there was a tee entering the sewer line from the laundry room utility sink which did not allow the camera to be run through the sewer line. B&R Septic personnel felt all fixtures downstairs were tied together based on sound through the piping when fixtures were running; however, the downstairs kitchen sink is tied to the 2005 septic tank as Flow entered the tank when it was turned on. Additional efforts to locate this septic tank were not attempted. Wastewater from the residence entering this "gray water" system should only be from the laundry room and downstairs bathtub. "Gray water" does not typically carry pathogens and viruses normally present in "black water", or wastewater that comes from toilets. There are metal stakes located above the driveway in a location that is consistent with the Pitkin County drawing of the "metal tank". Given that metal detector was not able to locate this tank, and the fact that the other original septic tank on the property (replaced in 2005) was plastic, we believe this tank may be plastic. Digging in this area may result in location of the tank. The other alternative would be to cut the sewer line leading from the laundry room utility sink to allow access for a camera. r(J CBO Inc. i= 33 Four Wheel Drive Road Carbondale, CO 81623 k" cell) 970-309-5259 office) 970-704-0484 carla. ostberq(o)gmail.com August 16, 2014 Bennett Bramson bbramson(a)aol.com Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Use Permit Inspection 1020 Snowmass Creek Road Pitkin County, Colorado Mr. Bramson, As requested, CBO Inc. performed an Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Use Permit inspection at 1020 Snowmass Creek Road, Snowmass, Colorado on July 28, August 11, and August 14, 2014. The other alternative would be to cut the sewer line leading from the laundry room utility sink to allow access for a camera. r(J 0 0 The 2005 septic tank is located to the west of the residence, below the driveway. The septic tank manhole lids were accessible from grade. Both inlet and outlet tees were present. The outlet tee has an effluent filter that must be cleaned annually, or as needed. The septic tank was pumped by Excavation Services on August 7, 2014. Pumping records indicate 1500 -gallons were pumped, which is inconsistent with Pitkin County records. However, 1500 -gallons of capacity are sufficient to serve a 4 -bedroom residence. Inspection ports are present in the absorption area. Three inspection ports were observed during the inspection. The lowest port was dry, but water was present in the S132 pipes of the other two trenches. If the Pitkin County drawing is accurate, we believe the upper trench and another trench not visible from an inspection port belong to the "gray water" system and the lower trenches come from the 2005 septic tank. Despite the presence of water in two of the S132 pipe trenches, the absorption area showed no signs of surface saturation. This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance. This inspection is good for one year. Recommendations: • Clean effluent filter annually, or as needed. • Continue to monitor water levels in SB2 pipes. • Locate "gray water" septic tank. This report, along with the receipt from pumping, should be submitted to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department. The following links are the required application and application checklist.
