CHURCH performed a percolation test in 2000, and prepared an OWS design based on an average percolation rate. The design was based on 5 bedrooms for the main residence and 2 bedrooms for the caretaker unit, for a total of 7 bedrooms. The current homeowner is adding a bedroom to the main residence bringing the total number of bedrooms to 8. The subject property is located outside of Aspen, Colorado in an area where wells and OWS are necessary. The subject well is greater than 295 feet from the existing drain field. The subject OWS consists of three septic tanks and one 2790 SF chamber -drain field, as indicated on the attached as - built drawing. Soil samples were collected at the subject site in order to perform gradation analyses and determine a long -term -acceptance -rate (LTAR). Our sizing of the proposed 8 -bedroom residence will be based on the LTAR from the soil samples collected. The soil samples, and gradation analyses, indicated the soils were a sand to a sandy loam. A 0.95 LTAR will be used to justify the sizing of the drain field. DRAIN FIELD SIZING: 6 bedroom main residence, >6000SF = 1560 gallons per day (GPD) 2 bedroom caretaker unit, <6000SF = 400 GPD Total loading = 1960 GPDx 1.75 = 3430 GPD 3430 / 0.95 LTAR = 3611 of required SF of #in field. 30% reduction based on chambers = 2528 SF Existing drain field area = 2790 SF The existing drain field will serve the existing residence, including the proposed additional bedroom in the main residence. M • Onsite Wastewater Systems Pro. No. 1455 Feb 27 2008 Page 2 TANK SIZING: 6 bedroom main residence, >6000SF = 1560 GPD (3000 gallons exist) 2 bedroom caretaker unit, <6000SF = 400 GPD (1000 gallons exist) MAIN Total minimum gals required = 1560 GPD x 1.75 x 1.25 = 3413 Gals CARETAKER Total minimum gals required = 400 GPD x 1.75 x 1.25 = 875 Gals The main residence requires a 1000 -gallon, single -compartment, concrete septic tank to be installed to accommodate the additional loading, as indicated on plans. The existing pump in the existing tank is sufficient to serve the new tank and existing drain field. Remove pump and pump vault from existing tank and place in proposed 1000 -gallon single -compartment tank. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Check the septic tank to ensure the pump is working and that the tank is not overdue for pumping. 2. Clean the effluent filter. Check observation pipes to ensure that they are clear and that no liquid is standing in the drain field. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE INFORMATION The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. LIMITS: This evaluation is not a guarantee of any future drain field performance, in any way. The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Sincerely, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC ----7- Timothy R.
