Following are the details for the septic system at my cabin at Norrie Colony. As we discussed, this is a weekend/vacation cabin only, so it does not receive much use. Nevertheless, I believe that you will find the septic system to be more than adequate for the planned addition of one bedroom and one bathroom. The septic tank is a square 1,000 gallon cement tank. The leach field is 120' long, 5' deep, and 3' wide with a 6" leach field PVC pipe properly leveled with a transit. The entire leach field has been backfilled with gravel. If necessary, this information can be confirmed by Bill Anderson, the Norrie caretaker. I enjoyed talking with you this morning and appreciate your help with this matter. We hope to begin construction within a few weeks. If you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to call me. Thank you again. Sincerely, Edward D. White Dufford & Brown, P.C. 1700 Broadway, Suite 1700 Denver, Colorado 80290-1701 Re: White Cabin, Norrie Colony, Meredith, Colorado Dear Ted: It is the goal of the Aspen/Pitkin Environmental Health Department to review and permit proper sewage disposal systems for all occupied structures. In attaining this goal I would like to follow up our conversations of last fall in regards to the cabin at Norrie colony. I am enclosing the application for an individual sewage disposal system permit. I would like to get this system properly permitted and inspected this summer. Please provide as much information on these documents as possible. Another requirement that I would like to make is that if you could have a simple percolation test run for the site. This would provide soil type information that would make the system proper and legal. This percolation test would need to be conducted by a consulting or engineering firm. I would also like to request, as the weather permits, to go on site to inspect this system for its site location and construction. The information that you provided about the dimensions and design of the septic system where evaluated according to Pitkin County Title X Sewage Regulations. The dimensions of the field are, as provided by you, 120' long, 3' wide and 5' deep. Regulations require that no single trench be longer than 100'. Based on this I did the sizing calculations based on a 100' long trench that is 3' wide and in cobble river rock and soil. This soil data must be verified by percolation tests to assure proper sizing. After calculating the required size for a three bedroom seasonal use cabin, I came up with the following dimensions: 101' long, 3' wide and 5' deep of river rock soil base. The 1' over the maximum length can be considered as still being adequate. I will need to verify the location and soil types upon inspection this summer. If you have any further questions or the above information is confusing please call me at (303) 920-5069 and I will be happy to add clarity. Thank you for your time and cooperation in resolving this matter. Sincerely, Chris Chiola Environmental Health Officer :90TH: U DD:f TCPC: W P: W NITECA9IN 0 a September 1, 1994 Edward D. White Dufford & Brown, P.C. 1700 Broadway, Suite 1700 Denver, Colorado 80290-1701 Re: Norrie Colony Cabin Septic System Dear Mr. White: I have received all of the information from you regarding the septic system at the Norrie Colony Cabin. I also received the percolation results from the contractor. Enclosed is a copy of the individual sewage disposal system permit for this site. After taking the information from you and plugging it into our formulas, the system is of an adequate size for the occasional use of the cabin. I inspected the property June 22, 1994 and found the system (what was visible) met Pitkin County requirements for the installation of a septic system. I would like to thank you for your time involved in this matter and if you have any further questions please call me at (303) 920- 5069. Sincerely, Chris Chiola Environmental Health Officer 0 L'
